For more than 50 years, Saturday Night Live has pushed boundaries on live television. But sometimes those boundaries went a little too far. Over the decades, several sketches and moments aired live only to disappear from reruns, streaming, or official archives.

In this video, we take a look at some of the most controversial, banned, or quietly buried SNL moments — from infamous hosting disasters to sketches that the show would probably rather you forget.

Sketches we'll look at include:

• The entire Steven Seagal episode that has never been fully rerun (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_svRbhpP820)

• Sinéad O’Connor tearing up a photo of Pope John Paul II live on air

• Martin Lawrence and the monologue that NBC banned from reruns

• A bizarre Chris Elliott sketch many fans call the most uncomfortable in SNL history

• The Wayne's World joke about Chelsea Clinton that sparked outrage

• Jimmy Fallon’s controversial blackface Chris Rock impression

• Adrien Brody’s infamous introduction of Sean Paul

• And the surprisingly still-circulating Will Ferrell sketch featuring Robert Goulet

Some of these clips were cut from reruns. Others were scrubbed from streaming. A few still exist — but they haven’t aged well.

If you know of other banned or hard-to-find SNL sketches, drop them in the comments and they might end up in a future video.
