Well season 5 starts tomorrow and looked at the opening on youtube and found it funny that you see all those shots of Downtown Indianapolis like it had a skyline and was big like NYC or Chicago. The city actually has a somewhat of a skyline now. None of those buildings was there in Fall of 79

I cant tell if the building at :43 in the opening is still there today. Reminds me of Hartford CT

In 1982 they started building the Hoosier Dome in the city. The Colts started playing there in 1984, four months after ODAAT’s last episode aired. Their first game there, they lost to the Jets.

I wonder why Ann didnt request to move to another seat inside the class because of the creepy horny guy sitting next to her. He was a fckin weirdo:lol:

The black girl sitting in front of Ann in class would have been my type if I was her age in 79 lol She has that look l go for in a woman.........."someone who has no idea she is attractive"

And that teacher played the 2nd Mr. Whittendale on the jeffersons

And Ann asked Barbara did she want her to take another class and she said no so why the hell was she complaining? lol

I think if I was Brad I would have broke it off with Barbara too and let me explain why. Brad just wanted some kind of affection since they were a couple. Light make out session that didnt have to lead to sex. If Im in a relationship with someone and she never wants to hug and kiss me? lol Barbara kept stopping when she would kiss him. So he probably felt she wasnt attracted to him. You cant be in a relationship with someone and be alone and not have no kind of affection at all. AGAIN it didnt have to lead to sex she her showing affection

So maybe Barbara was more for suited for Bob and didnt realize it:lol:

I was about 5 or 10 minutes into watching the second episode with Barbara and the boyfriend and fell asleep . I was up early because I had some work today. Laid down in the bed to watch One day at a time and was out like a light and missed most the second episode. Woke up when my hubby came and the Jefferson's was on.

No time now, but tomorrow I’m going to strongly disagree with this take.

No, Brad wanted sex. All the way stuff. I’m not blaming him here, but Barbara wasn’t ready. She’d stop him when he was becoming too aggressive. Light make out they were having. He wanted more.

So she tells the family she and fred is in love and they getting married next week. Then I keep wondering why the hell am I seeing Max if Fred is the one she is marrying. Then Julie starts arguing with Max and realize she is in love with him instead of Fred. Im like WTF?????

I’m gonna let Bonnie handle the Max/Fred talk. I’ll just do the Oh My God thing. It was a sitcom that started mid ‘70s. As you know, many of those seemingly needed to try and get a catchphrase. Yes, Oh My God was their attempt. It shall continue.

Yeah. A little bit or rather a LOT far fetched that would happen. Julie having not one, but two men who were both good looking completly falling in love with her on a ski weekend vacation. To the point that both wanted tobmarry her !,And the fact that they were best friends.

It pretty much showed Max as being a total jerk and Fred being totally stupid. But Max ends up a good guy and a good addition to the cast. And I ended up developing a major crush on him watching ODAAT back when Antenna showed this the first time.

Love me some Michael Lembeck/ Max . His Sister is Helaine Lembeck, Judy from Welcome back Kotter. :)

Asparagus is delicious ! And back in 1979 it wasn't really that popular. As a kid and a teenager I remember my Mother serving it only on special occasions, company coming for dinner or something. Because it was too expensive to have as a regular every night veggie like broccoli, peas or green beans. :D

I know . It was terrible back than. Girls were so pressured to be skinny in order to be considered pretty or sexy. A girl with a cute body but a few pounds was considered fat. It led a lot of young women to anorexia , to the point of even starving to death.:(

You are younger than Opus and I , but their was a singer named Karen Carpenter. Started out as a cute girl, not heavy , but healthy looking. Thought she was too fat and became a skeleton and she literally died. Not skinny from drugs , just excessive s dieting and vomiting after eating anything. :(

This was very sad. Good old days and all. But the 70's and 80's did have it's problems like this. Girls wanting to be thin. Either going the anorexia route or doing meth or cocaine to be thin. Which might have been part of the problem with Julie/ MacKenzie Phillips back than!:(

All the problems in the world these days but at least women don't have you be real thin anymore to feel beautiful. It's OK to have a little weight on us now :)

Yes. She and her Brother Richard were in a music group called " The Carpenters" Had a bunch of hits in the pop music/ easy listening genre in the 70's and early 80's. Then she literally died, starved herself to death from anorexia . She had it in her mind that her normal weight was fat. It was so I sad when she passed away. She had a really pretty singing voice and was so cute at first before she lost so much weight and became a skeleton. :(

I had the Carpenters Christmas song called Sleigh Ride in my phone back in December lol

Yeah I think Al Bundy made a reference to them on Married with Children

Yes the Carpenters were humorously referenced in "Married With Children," including a scene where Al Bundy's toilet played their song "We've Only Just Begun."
Karen Carpenter died in 1983 at the age of 32.
She had a voice known as an "Angelic Voice"
with a distinctive three-octave contralto range.

And why is max calling Ann shorty? He annoyed me again

Yep. And that episode wouldn't fly nowadays. Barbara would have to tell him straight up that he's too young and No way would she go on a date with him. Even though to her it wasn't a date, but if the kid got the word around that he was dating an 18 year old, Barbara could get in big trouble.

But I thought it was a pretty good episode.

How about Ann's alleged sexual harassment ? That guy was such a wimp! :D I thought this episode was the better of the two today, and Max was there , that always makes a better ep. for me. :)

Well, Ann had the steaks for dinner thinking Barbara and Julie were going to be there for dinner. When she found out they were going out is when she got the idea to have a business dinner with Craig. Big mistake having wine at business dinner at your house with a man you find attractive. I think Ann got kind of loose from the wine , and the kiss kind of happened. I don't think she planned to have him over to seduce him.

When he didn't respond well to the first kiss, she surely should not have kissed him again. But I think he overreacted and acted like a wimp. Ann really did end up looking a fool!

The Shorty thing was something that was came for Max to call Ann, that she didn't mind . She didn't like him calling her Mother Romano !:D. Ahh, I hope you get to like Max ! I think you will like him going up against Schneider in an upcoming season 5 ep. " Male jealousy".

I know. Not this time, but when Antenna was running One day at a time a few years ago , I thought the same thing. I didn't realize betting on football games was this big of a deal , and this would put a person in jail?:D

It was cute how naive Barbara was about it. I would have been too. :)

Something that was strange in that episode , when Schneider was dancing with the umbrella singing Raindrops keep falling on my head . They showed the dining room, and the kitchen was closed off . Meaning like on All in the family and Mary Tyler Moore show , the kitchen could be closed off or opened, Not sure how to explain it ? If I'm making sense? Yes gambling wasnt considered legal back then it was all underground. Thats why Brent Musberger the host of NFL today had to speak in hidden codes when giving out betting information on the games. So when the show came on and it showed a live shot of the stadium and the sun was out, bettors new it was ok to take the over on pts since it wasnt raining. Something different ? Maybe Ann was really bored of the cookout after a few years. And nice of Max for wanting to include his wife's family. Exciting, flying out of town for a big fancy dinner party. But at that point, I think Ann and Barbara just wanted to keep the peace, so either way where they went wasn't important. :)

I looked up the actor, because I recognized him from guest starring on Green Acres. Born 1939 , so 40 years old in real life. I guess that's the age or around that age he was supposed to be. Ann would have been the perfect age for him. But Barbara was too young and Grandma too old. :D

I’ll give them that everyone would panic when the pipe burst (hell, something like happened to me a few weeks ago but it wasn’t in the bathroom, it was from a dishwasher) and rush into the bathroom, but I don’t have a reason why they’d shut the door behind them

I can relate to the storyline. 14 years ago in Feb of 2016, I was informed by landlord that the building was being sold and my lease was ending on May 31st. They was turning the apt into condos and was told I can select one first before its advertised. of course I was forced to move to the apt I am in now and been here ever since.

TVFactFan

Well the retrospective was pretty good. Like I said I was able to relate because my apt was converted into a condo 10 years ago and I had to relocate because I had no money for a condo. That was my last time dealing with a private landlord.

IDK? I think it would be really easy to go off track of how much credit you had . In 1980 I didn't have credit cards yet . Back than I don't think they had automated phone numbers you could call to check your balance and of course no

internet/ online back than. So maybe you wouldn't keep
track as good as you would now. But still there were
monthly statements/ bills. So yeah Max and Julie too were
just being restless with the credit . As lots of young people
do. Every generation really . Even older people too. Charge
it, worry about it later. Easy to get your credit messed up!:(

BTW: this is the very first time I ever watch a sitcom and its the cast is already out in public

IDK? I think it would be really easy to go off track of how much credit you had . In 1980 I didn't have credit cards yet . Back than I don't think they had automated phone numbers you could call to check your balance and of course no

internet/ online back than. So maybe you wouldn't keep
track as good as you would now. But still there were
monthly statements/ bills. So yeah Max and Julie too were
just being restless with the credit . As lots of young people
do. Every generation really . Even older people too. Charge
it, worry about it later. Easy to get your credit messed up!:(

Yeah maybe the younger me wouldnt check it as often. lol

But to the viewing public as this time of the series, max is looking so sad as a man. It probably changes but if u are watching in 1980 its so easy to think that he is a crappy husband

I forgot to mention that a statement schneider made in the retrospective episode about him having a mid-life crisis made me think of myself

He said that sometimes he says to himself.........."wow I cant believe the marx brothers are gone, three stooges are gone, all the little rascals are over 50"

Sometimes I say to myself........whole cast of L&S is gone, most of the Jeffersons cast is gone, Good times cast is gone.

I was able to relate. Just confirms Im getting old.

But by 1980 with women's lib. marriages were more like a joint / team type thing. So both of them were reckless with the money. As opposed to the old days where the men handled all the financial things in the marriage. ;)

Antenna has always cut her out of that one. It’s a scene at the apartment around the middle of it where while Ann and Schneider are talking about Connors, Barbara is on the couch in pajamas having mouth problems.

Yeah. I thought so. Basically the whole episode was not in the apartment. Not one of my favorite eps. for sure.

The second episode was pretty good and funny really, even without Max. ;)

I got Connor’s Crisis third from the bottom, just below Ginny’s Child. So I was slightly more into Ginny not wanting her kid than into some woman wanting to sleep with Mr. Connors for financial gain.

Well the Indirect History lesson in the Connors episode was that the Lawrence Welk show aired on ABC at the time and ended in 1982. I believe that was it.

I cant see how any woman could live with Mr. Connors. He was so damm dry and dull.

Question.........I noticed in the opening its a scene with Max coming in with a bag of groceries and dropping them near the mail boxes

What episode was that?

It’s not in an episode but based on Barbara’s outfit I say it was filmed during the second episode Monday. They must have cut it from the episode. That’s my guess anyways.

They should make it. May isn’t that far off, and Antenna doesn’t really make changes that quickly.

Actually, season 5 (it looks they’re in their college sweaters and they didn’t graduate till season 4). Is there any clue about an episode where the 3 of them were on one side of the booth in those outfits and Fonzie was on the other side?
