Pickles from The Dick van Dyke Show. I know she was seen, but not after the second season. Disappearing is more impressive than always being invisible. In his bar mitzvah episode, Buddy directly addresses her onscreen - and she's not there!

I would definitely go with Carlton the Doorman from Rhoda. Lorenzo Music played the role so well that he stayed on for the entire run. In the closing credits, he was billed a "L. Music." He would also open with "Hello, this is Carlton your doorman."

He was seen dancing in Rhoda’s apt during the closing credits of an episode, but he was wearing a gorilla mask. I don’t remember what episode though, it’s been many years since I’ve seen that one.

I think there was also one where he was in a hallway in a red uniform, like a doorman could have, and his back was to the camera.

Same here, many years.

Carlton was animated in a special maybe from 1978 or so, aptly titled “Carlton Your Doorman.” Lorenzo Music (voice actor for Carlton) was perfect for Garfield the Cat 10 years later.

I voted for Maris Crane, but she beats out Vera from Cheers only by a hair. It's a very close one for me!

Peg Bundy's mother is never seen on Married with Children, if I remember correctly she is supposedly in an upstairs bedroom in at least one episode.

In flashbacks involving the Mama's Family characters, Mama's husband Carl is still living and we hear his voice -- but unless I'm mistaken, we never see him.

Also worth mention is that on M*A*S*H we often hear of family members who are residing back home, with some notable exceptions (a film notably) usually not seen.

A big on site guy who was never seen was the PA announcer. I regret not thinking of him for the poll. He might have been my pick.

I don't remember if that character had a name, but the actor who voiced him was Todd Sussman.

How about Iola Boylen's parents on Mama's family? And Chloe, Henry the telephone man's wife on Alice .

P.A. announcer on M*A*S*H was good, so was the P.A. announcer on The Middle when Frankie worked at Ehlert's.
