My father and I decided to take in a Broadway show last night....well sort of. It was a benefit concert, and tickets were $250 each. It was called "Short Talks Of The Universe", and I had gone in not knowing what to expect. However, when I saw that I was sitting next to Mary Tyler Moore....I got a bit excitied. Mary asked me "what's a young person like you doing here tonight?". I was in shock when she was talking to me. The whole entire orchestra seating was sold out with about 60% celebrities. Goldie Hawn was sitting in front of me...and it looked like Tom Bosley was diagonally from my father. I was in shock to find that it had been sold out for a month or two. Tickets sold fast, but my dad's friend bought them for us.

The show was about a group of playwrights telling their story, with actors in the roles. Not just actors....movie stars. But before I begin naming the people onstage....may I tell you the playwrights:

Nora Ephron
John Robin Baiez
Tony Kurshner
Steve Martin (yes....I said STEVE MARTIN!)
Elaine May
and
Terrence McNally

It was really unknown who was going to perform, and everyone was excitied when it started. Matthew Broderick and Angela Lansbury performed in the first scene, with Emma Thompson, Kevin Kline, and Bette Midler in the second. Both scenes were so boring, but just seeing the actors was worth it. As the show went on, such people as Bebe Neuwirth, Phylicia Rashad, John Lithgow, and Bernadette Peters showed up.

But that wasn't the most exciting part....

The most exciting part was to have the elbow of Mary next to my arm the whole entire time. It was a magical moment for which I will never forget. Afterwards, there was a party at Sardis (I think), for which only "celebrities" were invited. But I have more respect for Mary. As she walked down 44th street to get to her limo, she passed by Sardis, and proved that she was a person....and not some celebrity rich-snob.

I cherished every moment last night, and will probably never forget it.
