The only bad thing here is the 3 vs 3 OT format. That’s wrong.

Great calls by Kenny Albert.

3 v 3 is a slightly a better way to end it than a shootout. 3 vs 3 is fine for the regular NHL season, but they shouldn't be deciding medals this way.

As far as I know, the same thing would happen with the men Sunday.

Oh, and 3v3 overtime still sucks for the big games. But overall, a memorable morning here.

Connor Hellebuyck stood on his head today. He showed why he's been the best goalie in the world the last few years. They won it for Johnny Gaudreau.

Jack Hughes came up big. There was some talk there were some other players who were more deserving of the roster spot. Some say he made the team because Quinn Hughes plays for Bill Guerin.

It would have been better to win it in regulation, but you take the win however you can get it. It's nice the FBI Director was able to fly to Italy to watch the thrilling victory in person.

Looks like men’s ratings were down in Canada but I don’t remember what time the game was on in 2014

8.7 million Canadians watched end of men's gold-medal hockey game at Olympics (https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/8-7-million-canadians-watched-165648566.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAIFMjpasx3L04CnPOLoNDFTtb4LthoWNeong_zoz66rxZNslgR_SqMTectMFSpvAzgsyuPMpX11IOw9NWdZB8o84-GW3cqzrMbqkFqzz1Ity_wxcGWKHe5cYmsBdbQb1p5_CaXlakf-NqIgiG9ruA-sLhAuqpYvm2gUEKGDvYPjp)

>>>Nearly nine million Canadians watched the end of the men's gold-medal hockey game, which CBC says was Canada's most-watched moment at the Milano Cortina Olympics.

But it's an apparent decline from Sochi 2014, the last time Canada's men's hockey team made it to the gold medal matchup, when CBC said 15 million Canadians tuned in to some portion of the game and average viewership hovered at 8.5 million.<<<

The 2026 game will likely have more total viewers when the final numbers are released.

It looks like it was played at the same time in Canada according to ChatGPT.

The gold medal hockey game at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi was played on Sunday, February 23, 2014.

For men’s ice hockey, the gold medal game between Canada men's national ice hockey team and Sweden men's national ice hockey team began at 16:00 local time (4:00 PM MSK).

That corresponds to:

8:00 AM Eastern Time (ET)
5:00 AM Pacific Time (PT)

>>>While the 3-on-3 overtime format to determine the gold-medal winners of both the men’s and women’s hockey tournaments at Milano Cortina 2026 has drawn the ire of some, IIHF president Luc Tardif said Tuesday he does not envision any changes to the format moving forward.<<<
