Brian wants to know if you've ever had the experience of thinking you were watching a knockoff of a writer until you realized it was an official adaptation.

Today, I wonder if you’ve ever had the experience of thinking you were watching a knockoff of a writer until you realized it was an official adaptation.

Pop Culture Theme Time (https://popculturereferences.com/category/pop-culture-theme-time/) is a feature where I put a question to you to see what you think about a particular theme. I might later revisit the theme for a future Drawing Crazy Patterns or Top Five.

I went into the new TV series, RJ Decker (https://www.google.com/search?q=Reviews+of+R.J.+Decker&oq=Reviews+of+R.J.+Decker&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIHCAEQIRigATIHCAIQIRigATIHCAMQIRigAdIBCTU1NDJqMWoxNagCDLACAfEFFaTa7-H86Ms&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8), completely blind beyond what the commercials for the TV show showed, which was Scott Speedman playing a former newspaper photographer who is now working as a private investigator in Florida.

While watching the episode, my wife and I kept noting that it really seemed like it was leaning HEAVILY into a Carl Hiaasen vibe, so much so that if felt like a knockoff of Hiaasen’s work. So I looked it up, and sure enough, it was a straight adaptation of one of Hiaasen’s earliest novels (the guy has a lot of novels, I’ve read some, but not all!).

Has something like that ever happened to you?

Let me know!
