View Full Version : Ratings for 1st and 2nd episode
TVFactFan 02-16-2026, 06:29 PM Which was a strong sign that the show wouldnt last long
Time slot: Debut-Dec 15, 1990- 8pm Saturday Night
TV show that led to the cancellation: Amen on NBC at 8pm
Last airing-Jan 19, 1991
Did you mean it would last or wouldn't last long? CBS really didn't give it much of a chance. They must have ordered only six episodes. All of CBS' sitcoms which aired on Saturday night that season were cancelled.
12.5 million and 10.5 million viewers would be a lot for a Saturday night these days. The second episode was a Christmas episode. I wonder if any other series had a Christmas episode air so early in their run.
The ratings declined quite a bit for episodes 3 and 4 before rising for episode 5. The last airing was on January 12, 1991. It never aired on January 19, 1991.
1. (12/15/90) 12.5 million
2. (12/22/90) 10.5 million
3. (12/29/90) 8.2 million
4. (01/05/91) 9.7 million
5. (01/12/91) 11.6 million
6. (01/19/91) pre-empted by CBS' special coverage of the Gulf War
I don't know where it finished overall in the 1990-1991 season. It's not listed on this page.
Amen was #74 overall on this list. What did Amen do on those nights against it?

That was a typo, wouldnt last long. There was a airing on 1/19/91 in the Philly area and the following week it was the pilot for the sitcom Uncle Buck. Amen was a little better at #57 the week WWTK made its debut and then improved to #44 the next week.

I don't think it aired anywhere on 1/19/91. It would have been listed though in TV Guide and any other advanced listings. It was pre-empted that night.
It's verified on the Wikipedia and epguides.com pages.
It was canceled after six episodes (five were aired, but the sixth was pre-empted by CBS' special coverage of the Gulf War).

Here's what you would have been watching on CBS in Philly that night at 8 PM. It looks like Amen wasn't pre-empted on NBC. Maybe only CBS was covering it.

Tvratings guide has been removed from the source list. Amen finished #66 out of 133 shows for 90-91 season. I was about to find a list up to 70. The reason why I know this season finale numbers is accurate is because another newspaper stated that Thirty something finished #62 which matches this list. So like I said............Tv ratings guide is false information lol
