Wally, Lumpy, and manager Eddie have a track meet, and the plan is to go to it in Lumpy's car. But, the new used carburetor Lumpy put in won't work. Since Fred has taken Ward to work, Ward's car is available, so Lumpy proposes that he drive Ward's car. With Fred listening, Ward acquiesces, and the trip to the meet goes without a hitch.

Different story coming back, when Lumpy takes a shortcut with a large puddle. Lumpy speeds through it, stalling Ward's car.

The boys push the car to a gas station and have it repaired. No one the wiser.
But, Bill Boothby has seen the boys pushing the car, and eventually relates it to Ward. The boys can't figure out how Ward found out, and of course Ward won't tell them.
