Beaver admires Richard's new jacket, with a secret pocket for valuables, some of which Richard is intending to get. Ward intends to talk Beaver out of getting one, but a sad Beaver tugs a Ward's heartstrings and he relents.

Richard loses his jacket, so the boys devise a plan where Richard wears Beaver's jacket home, and Richard brings it back the next morning. This plan continues for a while, with mixups involving a send to the cleaners.

Eventually Ward and June see Beaver hauling the jacket up on a rope, and the jig is up. Beaver does some fast talking, and the parents can't figure out a reason to punish him.
