1.On the Mary Tyler Moore Show, Ted wanted to impress his brother and pretended Mary was his girlfriend.
2. On Three's Company, Mr. Furley wanted to impress a rival and pretended he and Chrissy were recently married.

I know this plot happened more, but at the moment those are the 2 examples I can think off.

2. In the early days of TV, women had their babies in the hospital and off screen. Then it always seemed to happen when a character was about to have her baby, she couldn't get to the hospital.

1. On the Mary Tyler Moore Show, Georgette had her baby in Mary's bedroom.
2. On Family Ties, there was a major snowstorm and Elyse had her baby at the television station.
3. On Night Court, the Markie Post character had her baby in an elevator.
