...student body president!! This year I'm the BMOC and I hope to make my school year better not only for me but for my schoolmates. It's really nice having the teachers call me Mr. President. The elections were a few weeks ago but I forgot to post until now. Has anybody here ever been elected to student council at their school?

Congrats!! Did you promise the school McDonalds for lunch? LOl. And no, I wasnt into that whole thing. Everyone who did it, got voted mostly on popularity. Except for a few who actually CARED. But, congrats!!:cheers:!:D

I have never run for anything like that. But thats cool! Im happy 4 u!!:D

Whistles and cheers and yellps!! Good going. You should be proud of yourself. I did have similar titles when I was in school and it was not only an honor it was a something to do that counted. Have fun with it.

Thanks for the congrats, you guys. I was never elected to any position in the student body until this year. Being a senior, I knew this was my last chance. It was a really close election. I was one of three that ran for president and it was narrowed down to two because we needed a runoff the next week. I won by a really close decision. I felt like Rocky after he beat Apollo Creed in the final round in the first Rocky movie.

I'm not from the US and want to know, what can a school president do? Are you just the principals puppet that hands out checks and welcomes visitors and speaks at open nights. Can you actually change much or do you discuss it with teachers and reason with them, for instance if you wanted to allow students to leave school for lunch, can you do it?:eek:

I've been a member of student council since 6th grade...in 6th grade and 7th grade I didn't have a job, I just went to the meetings, but this year I'm an officer!! *dances* Officers (there r 5) each get a chance to do each job. I'm media secretary right now

This is going to be a long post. First, I'll explain my school. I go to a private school in California called the Winston School (it's named after Winston Churchill). This school is for mentally challenged kids like myself (I am a high-functioning autistic) and combines elementary school, middle school and upper school. There are several student council positions. There is the Middle School Rep., 9/10th Grade Rep., 11/th Grade Rep., Vice President, and a President. I head all the meetings and I listen to the council's ideas. I take these ideas and talk them over with the school administrators and see if they give the OK (they have to go over the legal issues, safety issues, etc.) I don't make all the decisions myself (unlike a dictatorship; the council works more like a team and I'm just a part of it) Not all the council's ideas are passed but the duty of it is to make the school year a more enjoyable year.

As for allowing students to leave for lunch, I don't have to worry about that. High schoolers can go off-campus for lunch (depending on the grade and what day it is) as long as they don't drive and don't misbehave.

I was in Student Council all 4 years in high school and 2 years in jr high. I ran for election my senior year, but because of politics and a certain teacher who doesn't like me (the feeling is mutual) I wasn't elected. So the sponsor appointed me to a position.

Our student councildoes all sorts of things. If students had complaints they could come to somebody in the student council and we could bring it to the administrators. We were kinda like the lasions between the students and teachers.

We also put on dances throughout the year, did fundraisers, helped with all home football games etc. We also helped plan the Burning of the B (our bonfire before homecoming)

During red ribbon week we would have programs and worh with MADD during the week. I can remember one year we did this thing of kids killed by drunk drivers. We had a person dress up as "death" and pull certain students out of class at certain times during the day. They would then be "dead" the rest of the day. They couldn't talk to anybody or nothing. All of us "dead people" ate together that day.

We also did beautification projects around the school. Planting trees, making gardens around the school, that sort of thing.

We also brought concerts to the school. In conjunction with the Sheriff's Department, we brought some bands to the school to perform. (That was always fun because we got out of class :) )

For me it was fun. I'm still friends with people from Student Council and am VERY good friends with the lady who was our sponsor. She was like a second mom to us. I look back on those days fondly. Man...sometimes I wish I were back there. *sigh* Oh well, you grow older and move on.
