A father and son Kite Day competition is the latest Mayfield event, and Ward and Beaver work to build a nice one.

Enter Gilbert - the now-established thorn in Beaver's side. He convinces Beaver to test out the kite, with Ward and June conveniently out shopping. Of course, the kite crashes and wrecks. Beaver desperately hopes for rain, and even visits a man, played by Jason Robards Sr., who Wally thinks might be able to do a rain dance.

But Beaver eventually has to face the music and tearfully tell Ward. They decide to buy a kite, which solves the problem.

It was a well-worn premise for the show, but I still liked this one.
