Eddie has never spent the night with the Cleavers. Ward is shocked when Wally asks if Eddie can stay over, but he recovers and allows it.

Complications arise when Eddie attempts to cheat at chess, and upsets the board, claiming he won. Wally threatens violence, and Eddie leaves in a huff.

Eddie's parents are out of town, and his father -- called Frank only in this episode -- calls Ward, expressing relief that Eddie is with them, since he is scared of being alone.

So Ward drives Wally over, and they retrieve Eddie, who fakes that his father is upstairs, but leaves with Wally anyway.

What if this episode was in the modern day, with internet and smartphones?

--one thing - maybe Wally would have texted Eddie and asked him back. Anything else?

Was the writing up to par? Could anything be improved?

--One thing - Mr. Haskell was George in several other episodes. Get the first name right. Anything else?

I think this is a standout episode. You really got to see Eddie's vulnerable side, adding depth to his character.

It has been observed that the existence of cell phones would obliterate MOST plot points and devices of the past. The fact that everybody is in constant contact with everybody else and can get help easily eliminates a lot of risks and dangers. One of the reasons I don't watch movies or TV series set in the present day is because I don't want to sit and watch people texting and staring at their phones. I can see plenty of that in real life.
