The series aired on ABC from 1958 to 1963. Rightly or wrongly, it is remembered as an example of TV pablum.

Wrongly. It's remembered that way by people who haven't really bothered to watch it. In reality it was a gently whimsical show about growing up, filled with sharp humor and observations and unforgettable characters.

That's a very handsome ad - really shows the Cleavers in the best light.

Yes. That's like the criticisms of Father Knows Best. These critics have seen no or very few episodes.
