View Full Version : Hey Jude, I found out that Lisa Whelchel was offered the role of Diane on Hello Larry
TVFactFan 06-15-2008, 11:14 AM I was reading the Hello Larry Page on the SitcomsOnline Board and was surprised to read that The girl who played Blair was offered the role of Diane for Season 2 of Hello Larry. Probably at the time it seemed like a GREAT OFFER because FOL wasn't really developed yet and Hello Larry was entering it's second season so I am surprised she didn't take the role

I remember reading an interview a couple of years ago.It might have been a transcript from a talk show. She said she was offered the rule but turned it down due to something. You might try and search for the transcript online.I believe it was The Phil Donahue Show and it aired in the sometime in the 80's.She also talked about her relationships with the cast members.

Jude The Obscure 06-15-2008, 02:59 PM Well, considering that HL debuted in January 1979, and FOL had that summer tryout in August (but the episodes were filmed way earlier), I could see that happening. Good thing she kept with FOL, because Ruthie was obviously the scene stealer in HL.

But it would have been hard for Ruthie to steal any scenes if Lisa Welchel joined the cast
Jude The Obscure 06-15-2008, 03:07 PM It would have been equal--both of them had it going on! :groucho
pfeifferobsessed 06-15-2008, 04:28 PM ive never been a fan of "hello larry"...but if lisa whelchel had been on it, i would have definitely watched it! ;)

I think she would have stood out more on HL because it would have only been 1 other girl versus 3 other girls on Facts of Life

well, shes always stood out the most to me on FOL!
TVFactFan 06-15-2008, 06:49 PM well, shes always stood out the most to me on FOL!
Yeah Kim Rachards would have been average looking in the same scene with Blair
On the otherhand she would be HOT if she was in the same scene with Natalie, Kimberly Drummond, or Jo-LOL
Lisa Whelchel was not the first choice to play Blair, either. Apparently Geri Reischl (Fake Jan on The Brady Bunch Variety Hour) was cast in the role, but she had to turn it down because she had a contract to do Crispy Wheat-n-Raisins commerials.

That must have sucked having to turn down a sitcom to do commercials.I don't think she would have ever been able to play Blair like Lisa Weltchel.I'm never seen the variety hour or the commercials so I don't know about her acting abilities.I still cannot imagine her or anyone else playing Blair.

Well I have the TV Encloypedia in my Apt and there was nothing in there about Mickey Mouse Club in the M section
catlover79 06-17-2008, 11:22 PM Yes, Lisa mentioned that she was up for the Hello, Larry role but decided to accept the FOL job instead. (She wrote about it in her book, The Facts of Life & Other Lessons My Father Taught Me.) Wise move, as FOL went on for 9 years and HL got canned after only like 2 seasons.

At the time it was a dumb move but looking back at it now it was a wise move-lol

Lisa even wrote that it was a leap of faith accepting a role on the new show, rather than going with the "sure thing" (Hello, Larry). Now, the rest is history! :D

Yeah I know I would have took the role on the show that already completed a season-lol
