To everyone who said that Fonzie let Richie hit him, they're wrong. Richie took Fonzie by surprise when he hit him. Fonzie never would've thought Richie would hit him, so he was unprepared when he did.

Well, you are right! Fonzie did not expect Richie to hit him, but Fonzie did know Richie was irritable and drunk-- a dangerous combination-- so he was suspicious of his actions. Fonzie let Richie get away with hitting him, though which was remarkable since everyone knows Fonzie has a temper. Fonzie never lost control and when Richie went to swing again, Fonzie dodged and then restrained Richie until he cooled down. So, no Fonzie didn't allow Richie to hit him, but he also didn't try to get back at Richie by fighting back.

I think this was a metamorphis for Richie's and Fonzie's relationship. For years, Fonzie had been the protector of the gang, but now Richie was just as tough. Fonzie expressed his surprise by saying, "Isn't that *my* job?" when Richie fended off the knife-weilding punk who was harrassing that woman. I think this was the first episode where Fonzie-- and the audience-- saw that Richie no longer needed Fonz's protection. The U.S. Army had trained Richie how to take care of himself.

I think Richie and Fonzie always helped each other out a lot. Richie gave Fonzie good advice, and Fonzie gave Richie great advice. They're blood brothers for life.

Just a question though and I'm answering it myself. If Fonzie is such a great fighter, wouldn't he have seen Richie's punch coming especially since he punched him so slowly?

Then again, Fonzie would not have expected something like that from a friend.

Those a-Mundo things always used to make me think Fonzie was square. Did Richie ever apologize to Mrs. C on that show? And I actually don't like the Welcome Home eps because Richie has changed so much, he's disgusting!
