I think local News Should be Broadcast only 6:00pm instead of airring it repetitively at other times. Now that local News has a Website you really don’t need onair time so much.

View Full Version : Do you think Local News should be cut down to 6:00pm? Merry24 12-22-2025, 01:07 PM I think local News Should be Broadcast only 6:00pm instead of airring it repetitively at other times. Now local on one channel starts at noon then from 4pm-6:30. The bad thing is it's the same repetitive stuff again and again. Just recently a student was stabbed-to-death at a high school in the area. They broke in around noon to report it and stayed with it for over 6 hours. The same thing over and over and with interviews from everyone they could find to get their analysis of it. I understand it was a tragic event, but do you really need to keep harping on it that long ? Merry24 12-22-2025, 01:52 PM I agree Zoneboy! Dream Canteen 12-22-2025, 02:27 PM News is the bread and butter of local broadcasters and where they get most of their advertising revenue. Until it becomes financially burdensome to do so — and it has in some smaller markets — TV stations are going to look to expand their news footprint, not contract it. Zoneboy 12-22-2025, 02:51 PM It's so bad around here that when the news isn't on they take every opportunity to promote it and their Roku channel. The Andy Griffith Show airs at 3:30pm and several key scenes are cut from each episode because of commercials and constant self-promotion. I clocked one episode and after credits and it timed out 17.40. Granted there are other sources for TAGS, but it leads into the 4pm newscast which my mom likes to watch. That’s insane because “Griffith” uncut should clock in somewhere around 26 minutes. I stopped watching syndicated reruns of my favorite shows on TV and cable because they’re butchered for more and more commercials. I just watch them on streaming or DVD/Blu-ray now because, with some exceptions, they’re presented there uncut. EDITED TO ADD: Peacock has the black-and-white seasons of “Griffith” if you have that, and it seems to be uncut. Paramount+ has the complete series, also seemingly uncut. Dude111 12-22-2025, 05:29 PM Since the news is mostly all garbage meant to keep ppl uninformed, yes it should be seen ONLY at 6pm! howilu 12-23-2025, 10:40 AM I very strongly agree. Local stations should air news at 6 PM local time instead of starting at 4 PM and 5 PM. My thinking is that stations couldn't find anything to fill the 4 PM time period after Oprah and Ellen DeGeneres ended their shows so they expanded their newscasts. KurtfromPitts 02-04-2026, 02:33 PM All this overexpansion possibly makes one long for the days when news was only 15 minutes in length. |
