I found some interesting trivia on one of my favorite movies.

It was Yul Brynner's idea to cast Steve McQueen in the movie because he liked his work on Wanted:Dead or Alive but ended up regretting it because McQueen was always upstaging him. There is a scene where Yul Brynner is speaking but all eyes are on McQueen in the background shaking a shotgun shell, Brynner was pissed at that. Yul Brynner made sure he didn't draw his gun at the same time as McQueen because he worried McQueen would be faster. Yul Brynner wanted to appear much taller than McQueen so he would build little piles of dirt to stand on when he was on camera but McQueen would go around and kick away each pile before filming started. Steve McQueen was busy with his tv series when asked to do the movie and rumor has it that he purposely injured himself in a car wreck so he could have time off from Wanted:Dead or Alive to do Magnificent Seven.
