I read an article from May 15th 1978 and in it, it stated that Reiner & Struthers were leaving 'AITF' for new shows. Rob going to ABC and Sally staying with CBS. I never heard this before. Is it true?

I don't think Sally did another show until Gloria but Rob did. He played a young immigrant at the turn of the century in the sitcom Free Country in the summer of 1978.
Here's a photo of him and co-star Judy Kahan.

I remember that show "Free Country" it was written by his father Carl and didn't last very long as I recall.

I remember Struthers saying she was leaving the series to persue a movie career. I believe she did a bit part in a Clint Eastwood movie while being part of the AITF cast, and she wanted to leave TV and go full force into movies.

Like most actors in a sitcom, Struthers and Reiner signed seven-year deals. If they were to have remained with the series for another season, it would have meant their contracts would have to have been renegotiated and likely including a significant salary increase. Those demands were not met, and they both left. As history shows, neither of them had any real projects pending.
