Famed actor and director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, have died at the ages of 78 and 68, after they were allegedly killed in a double homicide at their home.

The details surrounding their deaths remain unclear, but according to TMZ, the Los Angeles First Department was called to the couple’s home at around 3:30pm PT for medical aid, where authorities found a man and woman around Rob and Michele’s ages. Initially, reports wouldn’t confirm the identity of the victims, but did share that the home belonged to the Reiners.

The Los Angeles Police Department arrived right after the LAFD and has opened an investigation into the shocking deaths. According to the New York Post, the victims fitting the couple’s description were found stabbed to death.

Reiner, in addition to being a performer and director, was also notably the son of famed comedian Carl Reiner, the latter of whom died in 2020 at the age of 98. Rob Reiner is best known on television for playing Michael “Meathead” Stivic in Norman Lear‘s classic sitcom, All in the Family. Eventually, Reiner explored the directing space with his first feature, This Is Spinal Tap, which recently released its long-awaited sequel, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.

Among Reiner’s other classic movie contributions are Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, and A Few Good Men. Born in the Bronx, New York, in 1947, Reiner followed in the footsteps of his famous father and mother, Estelle, who was also a performer. Ultimately, Reiner relocated to Beverly Hills as a young teen, where he befriended performers like Richard Dreyfuss and Alberta Brooks.

He dipped his toe into the TV pool with small guest appearances on sitcoms like The Andy Griffith Show, Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., The Beverly Hillbillies, and The Partridge Family before landing his regular role with All in the Family, playing opposite Carroll O’Connor‘s Archie Bunker, as his liberal son-in-law.

In 1971, as Reiner appeared on All in the Family, he was married to actress Penny Marshall, with whom he had adopted her daughter Tracy, who was from a previous marriage. Their relationship ended in 1979 when they divorced. Reiner would ultimately meet his wife, photographer Michele Singer, while working on When Harry Met Sally. They married in 1989 and had three children, Jake, Nick, and Romy.

Reiner’s most recent television appearance included a memorable guest role on FX’s award-winning series The Bear in episodes that debuted this past summer. He’ll also fondly be remembered for his role as Jess’s (Zooey Deschanel) dad, Bob, in Fox’s former comedy New Girl. Along with his aforementioned acting gigs, Reiner also featured in The Good Fight, Hollywood, 30 Rock, and Curb Your Enthusiasm, along with movies like The Wolf of Wall Street, The Story of Us, and The First Wives Club.

Among some of the other films he directed were The American President, Ghosts of Mississippi, Rumour Has It…, The Bucket List, Flipped, The Magic of Belle Island, and And So It Goes, among others. Michele Reiner produced a few of Rob Reiner’s projects, including Spinal Tap II: The End Continues and his 2023 documentary Albert Brooks: Defending My Life. She’s also attached as an executive producer on the forthcoming series Wind River: Rising.

I read a little while ago the police believe the murderer was the couples' own son Nick. I don't know if he's been arrested yet or not.

Small correction: his appearance as Snake on The Partridge Family happened after All in the Family premiered. Ditto his appearance as Sheldn on The Odd Couple.

Rob had an early credit on The Andy Griffith Show episode, "Goober's Contest," the last episode of season 7. He had a minor role as a print shop worker.

Yes, excellent episode. A very late appearance for Howard McNear in that one, too.

Also, guys, refresh my memory. Didn't he play a pretty sizable role in a TV special several months ago or possibly last year, maybe honoring Dick Van Dyke?

He also played a Hippie on Gomer Pyle. There was an episode where hippies set up camp near the Marine base . I just googled. There are clips on Youtube of Rob as a hippy, Gomer singing Blowin' in the wind with the hippies. I just watched it, I'm on tears now. It was touching when I saw it a while ago on TV, now even more so.

I wish I could post it. I don't know how to post a video here.

Excellent episode, "Blowing in the Wind." I agree, I can't post the images, but I did find the link. Here are Rob Reiner, Leigh French, and Jim Nabors singing that Bob Dylan song --

Poor Mike!! (I wonder how Gloria Feels???)

Mike and Gloria are fictional characters played by actors over 45 years ago. If you mean Sally Struthers how she feels about it. I'm sure she is very upset, sad. Her co star of about 7 or 8 years being brutally murdered . Even if she hasn't kept up with him over the years , I am sure she must feel very sorry and upset this happened .

Not sure why you keep posting the comment about how Gloria feels ?

Anyone remember Carol O'Connors only son/child dying of a drug overdose? This was a major news story. I think Carol O'Connor took on drug dealers.

By comparison, I think only read once that Rob's son had drug issues. The issues with his son were not the major news story like they were with the late Carol O'Connor's son.

Very tragic to what happen to Rob and his wife. His son should have been kept in the mental hospital. This all could have been avoided. Even though the killer was his son, I hope justice is served.

Conan O'Brien 'breaks his silence' on the death of the Reiners (https://www.tmz.com/2026/02/20/conan-obrien-talks-about-rob-michele-reiner-deaths/)

Conan O'Brien is finally ready to discuss Rob and Michele Reiner's deaths ... opening up about the tragedy in a new interview released Friday.

The comedian talked about his relationship with the late director and his wife in a piece published by The New Yorker ... revealing he and his wife became increasingly close to the Reiners over time.

O'Brien says the two were lovely people ... and, finding out the Reiners were dead just hours after he bid them good night left him in shock for a long time afterward.

Conan went on to laud Reiner for his professional accomplishments ... especially his unprecedented run of successful films he helmed during the 1980s and '90s.
