I'm trying to remember a specific segment that I swear I remember seeing years ago.
I believe the case was an apparent kidnapping. I distinctly remember the kidnapper making ransom demands over the phone in a goofy fake Asian accent. I think it later turned out the person had been murdered.
I swear this was a UM segment, but it might have been a different true crime show (maybe Forensic Files).

Martha "Doe" Roberts
yes it was on UM and is still on filmrise, but it might be edited from the original release. I'm not sure about that though.
I do know that it was featured on FBI files and that episode is probably accessible online. it is an hour long episode with commercials and it goes into more detail than UM did.

THANK YOU!!!
I was starting to think I'd imagined it
I found the UM episode and it seems to be edited down (assuming it is the UM version I'm remembering). I'm now watching the FBI Files episode.

The FBI Files episode played a snippet of the phonecalls and it's definitely the case I was thinking of. One thing I remember that I can't find any reference to is Lord, when doing his Asian accent, saying something about riddles. Was that a thing or did I imagine that?

Pretty sure the phone calls were played on UM before it was solved and updated.

You are correct. The calls went something like "you listen...riddle solve, understand?"

Nope, you haven’t imagined any of it.
The Doe Roberts segment on Filmrise is slightly different from the original. I believe the segment was originally run much longer, included interviews with the police and more comments from Alan Roberts, and aired once. Then it was rebroadcast briefly with an update. Filmrise just edited everything together with a different voice over and no extended interviews.
