“Pushing Daisies,” which ran on ABC for two seasons from 2007 to 2009, reportedly has a third season in the works. In an interview with The Mary Sue, “Pushing Daisies” creator Bryan Fuller revealed some exciting news.
“Well, we’re working on a Season 3, and the whole cast wants to come back. And, we’ve got a whole story. We’re trying to do another season this year,” Fuller told the outlet.
Fuller, who also created the TV series "Hannibal" and “Star Trek: Discovery,” remained tight-lipped about the specifics. quirky comedy drama, but it definitely has some loyal fans awaiting its potential return.
To understand why fans are eager for a return, during its 22-episode run, “Pushing Daisies” won seven Emmy awards. Its first season received a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while its sophomore season earned a 100% rating. However, despite scoring so highly with some viewers, the show’s viewership began to decline rapidly, according to E! News.
Kristen Chenoweth, who played Olive Snook, also had another reason the network pulled the plug. “I think the writers’ strike did it,” she told the outlet, referring to the 2008 writers’ strike.
The show follows Ned (Lee Pace), a pastry chef who possesses a rare gift — the ability to restore life to the dead with just a touch. Typically, he puts his power to good use by helping an investigator solve murders by reviving the victims and asking the deceased to name the killer.
But complications arise when he brings his childhood sweetheart, Charlotte “Chuck” Charles (Anna Friel), back from the dead with the intention of keeping her alive. This quickly becomes problematic, though, because if Ned ever touches her again, she goes back to being dead forever.
Besides Pace, Friel, and Chenoweth, the show also starred Chi McBride, Jim Dale, Ellen Greene, Swoosie Kurtz, Field Cate, and others.
