It got decent ratings for a lot of its run (admittedly, it was likely in no small part because it followed The Golden Girls) and was a wonderful companion piece to The Golden Girls on Saturday nights. And it was a TOTAL improvement over the travesty that was the original pilot with Paul Dooley and Rita Moreno. Has it even had much of a life in syndication?

What is a piece of media that was incredibly popular during its time which nobody talks about anymore? (https://www.quora.com/What-is-a-piece-of-media-that-was-incredibly-popular-during-its-time-which-nobody-talks-about-anymore/answer/Jon-Mixon-1)

Empty Nest - Richard Mulligan managed to keep a series which was essentially about not much on the air for seven full seasons. Sadly actor Kristi McNichols mental health problems worsened during the series run and she virtually retired as a result. Begun as a backdoor pilot from the series Golden Girls, the show remained on air following the cancellation of its progenitor. However following its cancellation and a rather brief run in syndication, the series has largely disappeared. Mulligan died rather young (67) and the remainder of the main cast moved back into character roles from which they came. Major ratings grabber for NBC that is no longer memorable for most people.
