Im sure this was mentioned before, even though Uncle Bill is supposed to be from Indiana, he pronounces Terre Haute as terra hut, it should be pronounced terra hoe-t.

Kermit T Frog 12-08-2025, 10:57 PM I thought it was a made up place until just recently. Never heard of Terre Haute until I watched the show. biffbronson 12-09-2025, 10:56 AM I'm from northern Indiana and I've never heard anyone say "hut," just the French "haute." Terre Haute is way down south and means "High Ground." I don't know if it's pronounced 'hut' in the south; there are lots of very different aspects of living in the southern part of the state, close to Kentucky. A Canadian recently made fun of Terre Haute drivers' struggles in the snow and ice -- and lack of plowing & road salt, but he's too dumb to realize they rarely get much accumulating snow down there. stevea 12-09-2025, 12:45 PM I grew up in the Philadelphia area--south New Jersey--and there it's pronounced haut--rhyme with ought. Bad show research--and Brian Keith surely didn't know how to say it right. I know people from there, and as far as I know they say hote. |
