View Full Version : Why Will We Never See Edith's 50th Birthday Episode???
AtlantaBravesFan29 11-13-2002, 11:11 AM I was wondering why Nick at Nite or TV Land(which I don't have,by the way) has ever shown the episode "Edith's 50th Birthday" where Edith is attacked by the intruder and she shoves the cake into him and boots him out the door and all that applause where she gets away from him!!!
That is one of the all-time best episodes of All In The Family and yet they have never shown it!!! Why???
I have the 20th Anniversary of All In The Family video where they show the part where she shoves the cake into him and boots him out of the door!!! I know that they're going to show it on Nick at Nite November 24th, I sure hope that they don't edit it out!!!
Moonlight Lady 11-13-2002, 11:15 AM Yes, It has aired the two-parter. It's very hard to watch, very emotional in the 2nd part. I've seen it a number of times Nick at Nite and it's still hard to watch without getting lump in my throat for poor Edith.
AtlantaBravesFan29 11-13-2002, 11:17 AM When have they shown it,I have watched and watched and watched for it and it seems it has never been shown on there!!! I have watched most of the 1977-1978 season of All In The Family yet I have yet to see it!!!
Moonlight Lady 11-13-2002, 11:26 AM Well I just don't know what we're gonna do with you
Kidding aside, It was most likely back in October or September. They are running the first season again on Nick at Nite, so it'll be awhile before they show it again, It's on from 11 to Midnight so that's why they'll show it. I'm positive that it was on. :)
AtlantaBravesFan29 11-13-2002, 11:34 AM Okay!! Guess I'll just have to be on the lookout for it!!!
Maybe since Jean Stapleton is in the TV Hall Of Fame,Nick at Nite will show those episodes as well as the ones where Edith goes through the change, and all of the episodes where Edith is featured more in a marathon one of these days:)
Moonlight Lady 11-13-2002, 11:50 AM That would great if they did that :) I hope they do.
DarleneIllyria 11-13-2002, 08:36 PM That would be an awesome idea to have an Edith marathon since she is being inducted.

I agree. I think Edith is the most underrated character on the show. She deserves a marathon.
Brian 11-14-2002, 12:27 AM By the way, I have seen this episode and it does give me chills. I couldn't imagine how the actor felt when he was playing the rapist.
shadowgirl 01-02-2003, 11:25 PM i must have seen this episode at least 50 times now...and i still get goosebumps and still have that big exhale when edith finally runs free of her attempted rapist.
i am certain i have seen this two-parter recently, on nick or on tvland.but i know for a fact that it was shown several times during the aitf "fandemonium weekends" back last year.

DarleneIllyria 01-07-2003, 01:34 AM Whoa! You mean sitcoms aren't real life? *sarcasm* Dude, you need to get that chip off your shoulder. If you read the actual posts you'll read that other people were threatening David. Do you think any of the members of this forum sent the dude death threats? No.

shadowgirl 01-07-2003, 01:42 AM sir, i am HARDLY a moron.nor am i reading a lot of moronic things in this forum.i have been loving this show for most of my life and i am glad to have a place to go to talk about it.it's a great program.one of many, and one i may love the characters on, even though i know them to be just that:characters.
have you never cried/been choked up from the poignancy of a good movie?or seen something in the media that made you laugh or be sad or mad?
it is entirely possible to get chills from watching a SITCOM...or a play, or a movie, or any other vehicle where there is superior acting.and indeed both jean stapleton and david dukes did some seriously good acting in those episodes.to evoke a response like the ones a lot of people felt when seeing this, is simply good acting....great acting if you will.
as far as the death threats, that does not even sound moronic.sick, yes, moronic, no.
but if you feel this topic, or this forum or whatever, is populated by morons, may i ask why you are here?just curious.:)
RainMan 01-07-2003, 02:13 AM Is this the episode where Edith almost gets raped. Cause if it is I've seen it.
She's all shaky and stuff like that.

Janice 01-07-2003, 02:56 AM Great, just what we need, an idiot who signs up here for the sole purpose of starting trouble.
Here's a newsflash for you SpamMan. Actors do feel a lot of emotion when they're playing a challenging role. It can take days for them to shake off the role completely.
I saw David Dukes interviewed, and he said how difficult it was playing that role. I believe it was on the TV Land Special.
Now go crawl back under that rock. You're dirtying up the place.
