The on-air red rover of hosts at GMA is not dissimilar to that of The Talk on CBS before it was cancelled. The defunct talk show tried every combination of hosts imaginable before the Tiffany network threw in the towel, cancelled the show and replaced it with a new soap opera, Beyond the Gates, in its timeslot.

Since its premiere, Beyond the Gates has topped (https://daytimeconfidential.com/2025/03/05/beyond-the-gates-tops-general-hospital-in-premiere-week-ratings-) General Hospital in key ratings (https://daytimeconfidential.com/2025/03/14/beyond-the-gates-stays-solid-in-ratings-while-general-hospital-gains-ground-in-key-demos) at various times and held strong (https://daytimeconfidential.com/2025/05/12/cbs-finishes-39th-season-atop-daytime-ratings) in overall ratings. It has also drastically improved the time slot's ratings over what The Talk was pulling in. BTG has done so well CBS renewed it for a second season (https://daytimeconfidential.com/2025/05/12/breaking-news-beyond-the-gates-renewed-for-season-2) within its first 90 days on air.

Which brings us back to ABC. The House of Mouse has to be looking at Beyond the Gates' success and evaluating whether the third hour of GMA3 is worth the rollercoaster ride its been on.

There are so many writers and creators out there with imaginative visions for soap operas, one can imagine ABC is evaluating all their options.
