Monday, November 3 was the 50th anniversary of the day The Price is Right became TV's first hour long daytime game show. It came after CBS moved the show back to a morning time period after more than two years in an afternoon slot. In September, CBS ran a week of hour shows that introduced viewers to a new feature, the Showcase Showdown and The Big Wheel. The experiment was so successful that two months later it became permanent.

To me, The Price is Right is better as an hour long show, using nine contestants and six pricing games out of a rotation of more than 70. Two syndicated half hour revivals only lasted one season. Happy 50th anniversary to the hour long Price is Right.
