This video right below, argues (https://chatgpt.com/s/t_69045154b5bc81918e018f580ecda237) that Hocus Pocus (https://www.google.com/search?q=Hocus+Pocus&sca_esv=2b402440a197c26d&sxsrf=AE3TifPnybEvhsQ1PsOzgfwZ00JYx_-h7g%3A1761889991732&ei=x04Eafa9LPzKp84P16268Qo&ved=0ahUKEwi2vdzY382QAxV85ckDHdeWLq4Q4dUDCBM&uact=5&oq=Hocus+Pocus&gs_lp=Egxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAiC0hvY3VzIFBvY3VzMgoQIxiABBgnGIoFMg0QIxjwBRiABBgnGIoFMgoQIxjwBRgnGMkCMhAQLhiABBixAxiDARgUGIcCMgsQLhiABBiRAhiKBTILEAAYgAQYsQMYgwEyEBAuGIAEGLEDGEMYgwEYigUyEBAAGIAEGLEDGEMYgwEYigUyCxAuGIAEGLEDGIMBMgoQLhiABBhDGIoFSLcDUABYAHAAeAGQAQCYAZcCoAGXAqoBAzItMbgBA8gBAPgBAZgCAaACvgKYAwCSBwMzLTGgB_gUsgcDMy0xuAe-AsIHAzQtMcgHIA&sclient=gws-wiz-serp) is at this point, to Halloween what A Christmas Story (https://www.google.com/search?q=A+Christmas+Story&sca_esv=2b402440a197c26d&sxsrf=AE3TifOtKF019p9gXVP-d1sFUN0DKmsz3g%3A1761890028592&ei=7E4EacD4I9KLwN4Pr5aouQw&ved=0ahUKEwjAnqbq382QAxXSBdAFHS8LKscQ4dUDCBM&uact=5&oq=A+Christmas+Story&gs_lp=Egxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAiEUEgQ2hyaXN0bWFzIFN0b3J5MgQQIxgnMgoQIxiABBgnGIoFMgoQIxiABBgnGIoFMhEQLhiABBiRAhixAxiDARiKBTIREC4YgAQYkQIYsQMYgwEYigUyBRAAGIAEMgsQABiABBiRAhiKBTIFEAAYgAQyBRAAGIAEMgoQLhiABBhDGIoFSNMNUABYnAJwAXgBkAEAmAH2BaAB9gWqAQM2LTG4AQPIAQD4AQH4AQKYAgKgAuEGqAISwgINECMYgAQYJxiKBRjqAsICBxAjGCcY6gLCAg0QLhiABBgnGIoFGOoCwgIWEC4YgAQYQxi0AhjIAxiKBRjqAtgBAZgDN_EFMuVgHlZGL7a6BgYIARABGAiSBwUxLjYtMaAHgRCyBwM2LTG4B6kGwgcDNS0yyAdd&sclient=gws-wiz-serp) is to well...you know ;):

Basically, both are seasonal kids movies that didn't make a lot of waves (https://www.google.com/search?q=How+did+Hocus+Pocus+%281993%29+initially+perform+at+the+box+office%3F&sca_esv=2b402440a197c26d&sxsrf=AE3TifNJvUks0DhcAzRnJMSnrhXzQfVEag%3A1761890286146&ei=7k8EaaDYCNGTwbkPgNrC4Qg&ved=0ahUKEwigh47l4M2QAxXRSTABHQCtMIwQ4dUDCBM&uact=5&oq=How+did+Hocus+Pocus+%281993%29+initially+perform+at+the+box+office%3F&gs_lp=Egxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAiP0hvdyBkaWQgSG9jdXMgUG9jdXMgKDE5OTMpIGluaXRpYWxseSBwZXJmb3JtIGF0IHRoZSBib3ggb2ZmaWNlP0jlIlDwAljLHnABeAGQAQCYAdQCoAG4HaoBCDAuMTMuNS4xuAEDyAEA-AEBmAIFoAK1BsICChAAGLADGNYEGEfCAgUQABjvBcICCBAAGIAEGKIEwgIIEAAYogQYiQWYAwCIBgGQBgiSBwUxLjMuMaAHr0GyBwUwLjMuMbgHngbCBwMzLTXIB0c&sclient=gws-wiz-serp) at least at the box office, during their original theatrical releases (https://www.google.com/search?q=How+did+A+Christmas+Story+%281983%29+initially+perform+at+the+box+office%3F&sca_esv=2b402440a197c26d&sxsrf=AE3TifO1B_PgPsCACPC2hEuYsSL85k0R5A%3A1761890227339&ei=s08Eaai5FP_Pwt0Ptd_YuQU&ved=0ahUKEwjo3ojJ4M2QAxX_p7AFHbUvNlcQ4dUDCBM&uact=5&oq=How+did+A+Christmas+Story+%281983%29+initially+perform+at+the+box+office%3F&gs_lp=Egxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAiRUhvdyBkaWQgQSBDaHJpc3RtYXMgU3RvcnkgKDE5ODMpIGluaXRpYWxseSBwZXJmb3JtIGF0IHRoZSBib3ggb2ZmaWNlP0iie1AAWPt3cA14AZABAJgBxQOgAcZtqgELMC4zMS4yMy44LjG4AQPIAQD4AQGYAkSgAqduqAIQwgIHECMYJxjqAsICDRAjGIAEGCcYigUY6gLCAg0QLhiABBgnGIoFGOoCwgIUEAAYgAQYkQIYtAIYigUY6gLYAQHCAgUQABiABMICBhAAGBYYHsICCxAAGIAEGIYDGIoFwgIFEAAY7wXCAggQABiiBBiJBcICCBAAGIAEGKIEwgIIEAAYFhgKGB7CAgUQIRigAcICBRAhGKsCwgIHECEYoAEYCsICBRAhGJ8FmANT8QW-Ih-NBkjcM7oGBggBEAEYAZIHCjEzLjcuMzguMTCgB-i-ArIHCTAuNy4zOC4xMLgHtGvCBwsyLTEuNDYuMTkuMsgHzAk&sclient=gws-wiz-serp) (less than ten years apart no less) but have since become synonymous with the respected holidays that they are set in. And this is in no small part, because they're on television all of the time. And as with A Christmas Story (https://www.google.com/search?q=A+Christmas+Story+most+quotable+lines&sca_esv=2b402440a197c26d&sxsrf=AE3TifMaSJFDYy9kwE1HJL8DHv2bMDlJsw%3A1761890065274&ei=EU8EaerFEITGp84P6fr7qAc&ved=0ahUKEwiqkuX7382QAxUE48kDHWn9HnUQ4dUDCBM&uact=5&oq=A+Christmas+Story+most+quotable+lines&gs_lp=Egxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAiJUEgQ2hyaXN0bWFzIFN0b3J5IG1vc3QgcXVvdGFibGUgbGluZXMyBRAhGKABMgUQIRigATIFECEYoAEyBRAhGKABMgUQIRirAjIFECEYqwIyBRAhGKsCSKUoUKACWKkdcAF4AZABAZgBswWgAZUrqgEMMC4xMS4xLjQuMi4yuAEDyAEA-AEBmAIUoAKeLcICBxAjGLADGCfCAgoQABiwAxjWBBhHwgINEAAYgAQYsAMYQxiKBcICDhAAGLADGOQCGNYE2AEBwgITEC4YgAQYsAMYQxjIAxiKBdgBAcICBBAjGCfCAgoQIxiABBgnGIoFwgITEC4YgAQYsQMYQxiDARjUAhiKBcICEBAuGIAEGLEDGEMYgwEYigXCAgoQABiABBhDGIoFwgIFEAAYgATCAgsQLhiABBiRAhiKBcICCxAAGIAEGJECGIoFwgIFEC4YgATCAgsQLhiABBjHARivAcICBhAAGBYYHsICCBAAGKIEGIkFwgIFEAAY7wWYAwCIBgGQBhO6BgYIARABGAmSBwsxLjguNC4zLjIuMqAHwnOyBwswLjguNC4zLjIuMrgH3yzCBwoyLTIuMTEuNi4xyAfdAg&sclient=gws-wiz-serp), Hocus Pocus (https://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=476399) has become one of those movies where people know every single line (https://www.google.com/search?q=Hocus+Pocus+most+quotable+lines&sca_esv=2b402440a197c26d&sxsrf=AE3TifNeFpaOR3z9UPtV1INrbYqxwIb9NQ%3A1761890190669&ei=jk8EabTLKL2IwbkPyNnFMA&ved=0ahUKEwi0ysq34M2QAxU9RDABHchsEQYQ4dUDCBM&uact=5&oq=Hocus+Pocus+most+quotable+lines&gs_lp=Egxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAiH0hvY3VzIFBvY3VzIG1vc3QgcXVvdGFibGUgbGluZXMyCBAhGKABGMMESNcRUABYjg5wAHgBkAEAmAGuA6AByRKqAQkwLjQuMS4zLjG4AQPIAQD4AQGYAgOgApAGwgIGEAAYBxgewgIFEAAYgATCAgQQABgewgIGEAAYCBgemAMAkgcFMi0yLjGgB4MYsgcFMi0yLjG4B5AGwgcHMi0xLjAuMsgHTQ&sclient=gws-wiz-serp).

Better lead protagonist: Max Dennison (https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Max_Dennison) vs. Ralphie Parker (https://achristmasstory.fandom.com/wiki/Ralphie_Parker)

Better younger sibling: Dani (https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Dani_Dennison)vs. Randy (https://achristmasstory.fandom.com/wiki/Randy_Parker)

Better bully duo: Jay (https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Jay_Taylor) and Ice (https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Ernie_(Hocus_Pocus)) vs. Scut Farkus (https://achristmasstory.fandom.com/wiki/Scott_Farkus) and Grover Dill (https://achristmasstory.fandom.com/wiki/Grover_Dill)

Better parents: Dave (https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Dave_Dennison) and Jenny Dennison (https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Jenny_Dennison) vs. The Old Man (https://achristmasstory.fandom.com/wiki/Mr._Parker) and Mrs. Parker (https://achristmasstory.fandom.com/wiki/Mrs._Parker)

Better teacher: Miss Olin (https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Miss_Olin) vs. Miss Shields (https://achristmasstory.fandom.com/wiki/Miss_Shields)

Better running gag: "A virgin lit the black flame candle (https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Black_Flame_Candle)!" vs. "You'll shoot your eye out!"

Better "what do you mean this is for kids?" moment: Dani talking about how much Max loves Allison's "yabbos" (https://frakipedia.fandom.com/wiki/Yabbo) vs. the leg lamp (https://www.redriderleglamps.com/?srsltid=AfmBOoo6lVKkdj1JNVY97iB4dB3wOGNfeW-fD3jeilge7YjOXIDQ1f5B) that Ralphie's father wins

More embarrassing moment for a kid: Max gets his white shoes stolen by Jay and Ice vs. Flick (https://achristmasstory.fandom.com/wiki/Flick) gets his tongue stuck to the flagpole

Worse thing to be caught by someone else saying: Dani catches (https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fshipcestuous2.wordpress.com%2F2015%2F10%2F23%2Fhocus-pocus%2F&psig=AOvVaw2qMmfbagwsfpsL1IuIJmnr&ust=1761977445495000&source=images&cd=vfe&opi=89978449&ved=0CBkQjhxqFwoTCNCCt9LjzZADFQAAAAAdAAAAABAE) Max in his bed fantasying about Allison (https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/a1bc3854-d9da-471f-8360-474964a6bc18) vs. Ralphie saying "Oh fudge!" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwvEBhTYV5c) in clear earshot of his father.

Better MacGuffin: The spell book (https://evil.fandom.com/wiki/Spellbook) vs. the Red Ryder B.B. Gun (https://achristmasstory.fandom.com/wiki/Red_Ryder_Carbine-action_200-shot_Range_Model_Air_Rifle)

Better sequel: Hocus Pocus 2 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hocus_Pocus_2) vs. A Christmas Story Christmas (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Christmas_Story_Christmas) - And yes, I am aware that there are other follow-ups to A Christmas Story that came before A Christmas Story Christmas like 1994's It Runs in the Family (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Summer_Story) (AKA My Summer Story) and a made for TV movie from 1988 called Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ollie_Hopnoodle%27s_Haven_of_Bliss). I personally consider A Christmas Story Christmas to be the "official" sequel since it most importantly, brings Peter Billingsley back as Ralphie Parker.

A Christmas Story as far as I can remember, doesn't have a clear Allison (https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Allison_(Hocus_Pocus)) counterpart. Also, the closest equivalent that I can think of to the Sanderson sisters (https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Sanderson_Sisters) in A Christmas Story (i.e. a trio of adult antagonists) is the mean department store Santa (https://achristmasstory.fandom.com/wiki/Santa_Claus) and his two equally mean (https://achristmasstory.fandom.com/wiki/Male_Elf) (if not meaner (https://achristmasstory.fandom.com/wiki/Head_Elf)) elves.
