Seems to struggle getting thoughts out rarely completing a sentence. Seems in a confused state. Interesting if it was an act or not.

Dude111 10-09-2025, 09:38 AM Im knot shure..... stevea 10-09-2025, 11:11 AM I remember him from the old I've Got a Secret. He's very annoying. Take a look at Bennett Cerf's intro of John Daly in this July 1967 What's My Line? I call this "Rude Henry": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bw5pVjOf05g&list=PLqsaqh5sqUxr15HIFTyt_vhSmXUck7dV9&index=67 cd637299 10-09-2025, 02:21 PM Henry seemed to be a 20th century version of a 21st century late night talk show host. He was ahead of his time, if you wanna call it that. I definitely could see him doing late night; however I don’t think that he EVER subbed for Carson, Cavett, or Griffin. I sometimes listen to old NBC Radio “Monitor” shows: monitorbeacon.net Early on , I think even in the first week of the show, he “summarized” what was on TV earlier in the day….he was doing the viewing FOR us, if you will. Seemingly it was a case of “eh you didn’t miss anything.” If you go to the site, he hosted a few hours in the late 60s. IIRC he was classified as a satirist, more than anything else. Hard to put him in ANY category though! cd vitoscotti 10-09-2025, 07:41 PM He's entertaining on TTTT for how little he contributes, unliked he is, long ahs and ums collecting his thoughs, interrupting other panelists with them asking "can I finish please" like the YouTube clip posted. He puts his foot in his mouth a lot when his remarks make no sense or it's uncertain who he's directing them at. He has to be related to or buddies with somebody in high places to get these gravy gigs. I really enjoy when the a-hole is a panelist with all the tension he creates especially with milfs Peggy and Kitty. stevea 10-10-2025, 12:03 PM He's entertaining on TTTT for how little he contributes, unliked he is, long ahs and ums collecting his thoughs, interrupting other panelists with them asking "can I finish please" like the YouTube clip posted. Maybe his descendants started Morgan and Morgan lol. biffbronson 10-10-2025, 05:27 PM I've seen him mostly on What's My Line? The behavior described in this thread was pretty much how I viewed him consistently on there. I'm all for satirical humor, but What's My Line? in that era was a very classy game show, and the rudeness seems out-of-place. cd637299 10-10-2025, 06:13 PM I've seen him mostly on What's My Line? Yup— As much as I loved Groucho Marx, if I never see his What’s My Line appearance again, that’s fine with me. There’s a time and a place for everything. cd vitoscotti 10-10-2025, 07:18 PM Henry Morgan on Match Game. /LZao-zhT6Bo?si=M7OYOJeqC8KzZew0 stevea 10-10-2025, 08:20 PM Yup— As much as I loved Groucho Marx, if I never see his What’s My Line appearance again, that’s fine with me. There’s a time and a place for everything. cd Henry Morgan didn't fit on What's My Line? It was a live presentation and I'd bet that "rude Henry" thing wasn't planned. It really irritated Bennett Cerf, and I think (I didn't watch it recently) when Daly came out it obviously irritated him, too. Morgan appeared once more on a taped show in August 1967, and I doubt he was on again--it ended in September 1967 after nearly 900 shows. It WAS a "classy" game show--everyone was polite. I do like Groucho in the right circumstances, but he really didn't belong on that show either. In the one episode I saw, he put his blindfold on upside down--that was pretty funny. vitoscotti 10-10-2025, 09:51 PM I just listened to a Peter Marshall interview and he said when Groucho was on Hollywood Squares he bombed. |
