I was watching a later episode of Happy Days today on TV Land. I hadn't watched many of the later "post-Richie" episodes, and I was surprised to find that in the beginning of the episode the Cunninghams had a 1962 Studebaker Lark. I was not aware that they got rid of their beloved DeSoto for the Studebaker. Does anyone know the episode (if there was one) where they get a new car? Can anyone shed a little light on the subject? Studebakers are my favorite cars (see avatar) :D

It was in episode # 213 Letting Go When they got the new car. It WAS a 1960 to 1962 Studebaker lark, It was red. He got it because "He thought after all those years driving a huge DeSoto he thought he deserved something sportier. BTW I LOVE Classical Studebakers!

That makes two of us :D

From what I could see it was a 1962 model. It had the Mercedes-esque grille (Studebaker was the North American distributor of Mercedes-Benz at the time), 1959-1962 wraparound windshield and the 1962-3 taillights. Attached is a pic of a 1962 Stude that I found that is pretty similar to the one in Happy Days:

Ok, thanks for clarifying. I didn't really get a good look at the car anyway, but I could've sworn it was a '62...(or maybe they could have called it a '61 and it was really a '62...it's happened on more than one TV show where they misreport the car's year...who knows...)

Here's a pic of a '61 Lark then:

Yeah it's a great car and a HUGE improvement over that butt-ugly DeSoto.

They don't make cars like they used to then,

That was a fine classical american auto...

I like some of the others from the 50s and 60s, like the Chevy Bel-Air, the Ford T-Bird, the Ford Mustang and Chrysler Imperial.

I love 1955 - 1956 Imperials and most other cars from 1937 to 1960..

TheFonz, you should come to SE MI in August. We have this parade of antique cars called the Woodward Dream Cruise. They cruise on Woodward Ave. from Downtown Detroit up to Pontiac. There's lots of old beauties from the 40s, 50s and 60s there.
