30 YEARS AGO TODAY!!!
4 new series from Hanna-Barbera Productions, Incorporated adorn the Saturday Morning network TV schedules, all of which ranged from 60 to 120 minutes:
CBS and NBC had one new 60-minute show each: Skatebirds and C.B. Bears, respectively.
ABC had the most new H-B material that season with The All-New Super Friends Hour (which effectively tackled C.B. Bears) and the only 2-hour Saturday morning cartoon in existence: Scooby's All-Star Laff-A-Lympics (whose second and third half-hours thrashed Skatebirds).

Actually, Scooby's All-Star Laff-a-lympics was the first two-hour Saturday morning cartoon. Ruby-Spears' Plastic Man Comedy Adventure Show, also on ABC, became the second in the 1979-80 season, while Warner Brothers' Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Show ran for two hours on CBS in the 1981-82 season. Back then, with The All-New Superfriends Hour and Scooby's All-Star Laff-a-lympics dominating the airwaves and getting the ratings, that has got to be the reason why ABC was the no. 1 network on Saturday mornings in the 1977-78 season. The Saturday morning schedules in the 1977-78 season for both CBS and NBC, were relatively weak, compared to ABC's dominant Saturday morning line-up.

I absoulutely never missed the sneak peaks specials every September, introducing the new cartoons for the fall. I must have watched cartoons from 8am til noon. What a life, getting up and having cereal with my cartoons and in my PJ's. I hated having to do yardwork after though, I'd love to go back and do it all over again.
