Is there a certain song that's your favorite? I have a few (all Bonnie Raitt) like Too Long at the Fair, Silver Lining, and Something to Talk About.

P.S. Happy Birthday Bonnie!!! :D :D :D :birthday:

Happy Birthday Bonnie!
I can tell you without a squint of exaggeration that one of my all time favorite - jerk tears and emotions and make me break into loud, loud singing - songs is "Angel From Montgomery". I've always been NUTS about that song. Both Bonnie's version and, isn't it John Prine who wrote the lyrics and sang it also?

Mainly anything by Billy Joel... I'll pick 10 of his and then tell my "exception" songs... I don't usually listen to much else.

1. Movin Out
2. She's Always a Woman
3. Scenes From an Italian Resteraunt
4. The Stranger
5. Piano Man
6. Big Shot
7. New York State of Mind
8. The Second Wind song (I don't remember the full name)
9. Uptown Girl
10. Only The Good Die Young

And then my exception songs.... anything that Susan Sarandon or Bebe Neuwirth sing, "She Hates Me" by Puddle of Mudd, "Shadowboxer" and "Criminal" by Fiona Apple, "Goodbye To You" by Michelle Branch, "Ordinary Day" by Vanessa Carlton, and that "Everybody's Got That Something" song. I'll sing along to anything I know on the radio, even if I hate it ("Sk8er Boi", "A Thousand Miles"... anything  ) but those are my main ones.

BTW, I know I said it last night, but that was early... Happy B-day Bonnie! :D

Karli? I wonder if you remember? A few weeks ago I replied to one of your posts and I wrote "There's flys in the kitchen. I can here them buzzin'. And to believe in this livin' is just hard way to go." That was a bit the lyric from "Angel From Montgomery".

Yes, she sang it with John Prine at Austin City Limits and on her Greatest Hits album (featuring her Warner Brothers songs) and I think he did it on his own. I love those lyrics-it was funny how he wrote 'when I was a young girl, I had me a cowboy' and when he sings it with her he always sings that part.

You have REALLY good taste!!!

Another one of my all time favorites is "For a Dancer". I had long loved Jackson Brownes version--he wrote it.Then, at about the time that Dana Plato died, Linda Ronstadt recorded a version. The lyric, to me anyway, relates to Dana quite well. Since I'm not listing a long list of songs I'll put the lyric of "For a Dancer" in this post and maybe you all can see for yourself.

For a Dancer--Jackson Browne

Keep a fire burnin' in your eyes
Pay attention to the open skies
You never know what will be coming down
I don't remember losing track of you
You were always dancing in and out of view
I must have thought you would always be around
Always keeping things real by playin' the clown
Now you're nowhere to be found

I don't know what happens when people die
Can't seem to grasp it as hard as I try
It's like a song I can hear
Playing right in my ear
But I can't sing, I can't help listening

I can't help feeling stupid standing around
Crying is the easier down
Cause I know, that you would rather we'd be dancing
Dancin' our sorrow away
No matter what fate throws in your way

Just do the steps that you've been shown
By everyone you've ever know
Until the dance becomes your very own
No matter how close to yours
Another's steps have grown
In the end there is one dance you'll do alone

Keep a fire for the human race
Let your prayers go drifting into space
You never know what will be coming down
Perhaps a better world is drawing near
Just as easy it could all disappear
Along with whatever meaning you might have found

Don't let the uncertainty turn you around
Go on and make a joyful sound
Into a dancer you have grown
From a seed somebody else has thrown
Go on ahead and throw some seeds of your own

And somewhere between the time you arrive
And the time you go
May lie a reason that you were alive
But you'll never know

My FAVORITE of my favorites is "Moments Of You" by Rockapella.

Also on my favorites list are "Jenny Come Away," "Pretty Woman," "Keep On Smilin'," "I Am Your Man," "Where In The World Is Carmen Sandigeo?," "Shambala," and "Blah Blah Blah" -- all by Rockapella.

Shambala is one of my favorites, too--and I've always wondered why it was never issued in true stereo, having been recorded in 1973, well into the time when everything was recorded that way. I was listening to it earlier, and found a version that may be in the newer digitally extracted stereo, but it sounds more like someone found at least an overdub tape and was able to sync it in stereo. This is the best "fake stereo" version I've yet heard:
