The Rockford episode guest starring Rene Auberjonois aired tonight on GET. It was early 1979 during Benson's 1st season, when Taylor, who lacked Clayton's personality, was the chief of staff. It seems likely that the Benson producers saw him on The Rockford Files, where he was even more pompous, and thought Clayton would be a better foil for Benson than Taylor.
