True, but he was only 54 when he died. Had he lived longer then he might have ended up with more.

Who is a Hollywood actor/actress that may have a nice public image but is actually an awful person in private? What evidence or reasons support this belief? On screen, Landon played squeaky clean characters.

Little Joe Cartwright in “Bonanza”.

Charles Ingalls in “Little House on the Prairie”.

An angel in “Highway to Heaven”.

Landon off screen wasn’t so squeaky clean. His first wife helped build his acting career - they were married before Landon got the Bonanza role in 1957. Landon started fooling around though with the woman who would be his second wife - resulting in a divorce in 1962. Landon’s second marriage produced four children but they got separated while “Little House on the Prairie” was becoming a top-rated show and divorced in 1982. Landon married his third wife in 1983 - he’d met her while still married to the 2nd wife.

Landon had strained relations with some of his children because of his divorces. Although they reconciled while Landon was dying, Michael Landon Jr. and Landon’s adopted daughter Cheryl both were somewhat estranged from Landon.

Landon’s coworkers found him a tad egotistical. In 1982, Landon starred in a TV movie “Love is Forever” about an Australian journalist who rescues his lover from Cambodia. Costar Laura Gemser who played the Cambodian woman said working with Landon was so stressful that she nearly gave up acting. She claimed that Landon criticized her nonstop and drove her to tears.
