Why are so many 90s rappers cops on TV and movies? Is policing effective? Why are there so many cop shows on television? Questions easily answered by exploring the 90s rapper to cop pipeline. Here we examine the acting careers of Ice T, from his early antagonism of the state through his hardcore project Body Count, to playing Odifin Tutuola on Law and Order: SVU, to LL Cool J and his role as Sam Hanna on NCIS: Los Angeles, then Queen Latifah and her recent role on The Equalizer. Ice Cube, who went from FTP in NWA to being an agent of the state in a few actions movies. We briefly examine the history of black cops/agents in the media, discuss the legacy of Eddie Murphy and finally Will Smith, the major film prototype and all around all star.
