Was Florence Stanley always the actress who portrayed Bernice? If I remember correctly, the woman who played Bernice in the episode where Dietrich goes to Fish's house (and does his hilarious, but dead-on Gregory Peck imitation), was not Florence Stanley. Who was it?

I looked it up on the episode guide. The actress who originally played Bernice was Doris Belack. It was episode 24, titled Fish. :)

Thanks! :) It's interesting that the picture of Bernice they have in the characters section of Barney Miller in the TV Land website is that of Doris Belack... and she only made one appearance as Bernice!

Florence S appeared as Bernice prior to the substitute Bernice in the ep 'FISH". I can't remember which one, I just remember thinking, "Hey, she was the original Bernice, whaddya know!"
<G>
I liked the sub Bernice an awful lot. When Fish gave her heck, it made him all the sillier, since she wasn't doing anything to elicit it.
That is a really cool ep, of course, Detreich's a stud, so i would say that. <G>

I know I'm in the minority, but I liked Doris Belack better as Bernice. I found her take on the character much less annoying than Florence Stanley's, but I digress. Her interactions with Abe Vigoda, Steve Landesburg and Emily Levine (as Fish and Bernice's daughter Beverly) were hilarious. She was the one who first noticed how much Dietrich's "Go away, Beverly is busy" line sounded just like Gregory Peck!! "Fish" is one of my personal fave BM episodes. Loved every minute of it. :lol:
