View Full Version : "West" is taking over MeTV Toons' channel on Fios NYC
24/7 reruns 09-11-2025, 06:34 PM Well it looks like the new channel "West" is taking over Verizon Fios channel 468 in the NYC metro area. I have no clue where MeTV Toons will be located on Verizon Fios.
Considering all of the effort and hype there was for MeTV Toons it makes no sense to me why this change is happening.

I was afraid they might try to take away METV Toons in certain cities to help WEST gain much needed market share. Instead, Weigel should just convert over some of the low performing Story, Movies!, and Dabl Networks to WEST and METV Toons.
With all the existing Western themed networks, I still think a channel just dedicated to old television Western shows is a bad idea that will get stale really quick. It is also a redundant network, because METV, H&I, Inspiration, GritTV, PlutoTV and etc are already playing the same shows into the ground. Even the superior GritTV Network, with their expanded Western movie library, is constantly having to branch out to keep the network lineup fresh.
stevea 09-11-2025, 10:41 PM Are there really Western fans out there in large numbers?
I certainly agree about Dabl especially. That would get MeTV Toons into Indianapolis.
Charles Knox 09-11-2025, 11:23 PM Lot of complaints on the METV Toons Facebook page. Not a good way to start a new network off on the right foot. Whoever is responsible, needs to come to their senses that there are plenty of better Western channel options, but only one free over the air network dedicated to cartoons.

I am a big fan of old Western movies, mainly starring the Duke and other major stars of the golden era. GritTV is actually doing a lot of thing right, programming wise (even branching out into classic vault Disney films). The new WEST Network really feels like a desperation move on Weigels part to steal away some of GritTV's thunder.

Not to get political but with all of the 2nd amendment fans out there I can see tv westerns being popular. Where else can someone open carry a gun without others minding that.

I'm really referring to the tons of reruns of Gunsmoke and Bonanza on both MeTV and TV Land.

One possible positive with the West channel is that the western tv shows would be moved from MeTV and MeTV+. That actually has started with MeTV+. They removed all of the western shows from their weekend schedule. They did the same with the Sunday night cartoons when MeTV Toons got started.
stevea 09-12-2025, 08:10 AM What? No more Gunsmoke on MeTV?

I think you misread my post. MeTV+ has removed western shows from their weekend schedule. Unfortunately MeTV still has westerns on weekdays and Saturdays.
stevea 09-12-2025, 08:48 AM Nah. i was just hoping.
24/7 reruns 09-12-2025, 04:07 PM Well for the moment MeTV Toons is back on channel 468 on Verizon Fios in the NYC metro area. I did get a reply from MeTV Toons which reads:
Thank you for your e-mail.
MeTV Toons should be restored to your service shortly.
Thank you for watching.
So let's hope this isn't a temporary thing since the actual launch date for West is September 15th
stevea 09-12-2025, 04:26 PM I'm impressed by any response from a MeTV network. They're known for ignoring everything.
The only suggestion I ever sent MeTV Toons was to put the day with the date on their schedule, as main MeTV does. That was roundly ignored.
Would you send that to them for me? They seem to listen to you lol!
24/7 reruns 09-12-2025, 04:29 PM I was shocked too. Yet they are probably getting a lot of backlash on this. I did reply asking if this was permanent or temporary since West's launch date is September15th. We'll see if they reply to that.

From what I am reading, they (Weigel, Fios, or maybe both) just out of the blue interrupted the broadcast yesterday afternoon during Superfriends to advertise the new WEST channel for the rest of the afternoon and night. It's understandable that there was going to be complaints and backlash.

Yes, the promo for West was a short loop of information about the channel starting on September 15th. It repeated non-stop for the time you mentioned.
Apparently MeTV Toons will be run on WJLP channel 33.2 in NYC metro area. I'm not sure which station will offer this subchannel to Verizon Fios if at all.

Wow, that sounds pretty unprofessional.
