Bewitched for the reason that Samantha is far more smarter and intelligent than Jeannie. IDOJ would not work in today's times because it would be politically incorrect for a woman to call a man master and sit with her hands tied and lips sealed. There would be a lot of angry feminists if a show of that nature was played today.

You are probably right but a genie (male or female) is supposed to be subservient and grant his/her master's wishes. So that doesn't wash with me!

I'm a Jeannie fan all the way.

To play devil's advocate, Samantha never used her magic because Darren told her not to. She was a witch, it's what came naturally to her, but her hubby said no, so she did as she was told. Jeannie disobeyed Tony far more often than Sam disobeyed Darren.

Wanna bet? Such as in ABC's short-lived "You Wish", when the genie was a man, he pretty much always disobeyed his master, a woman. That might kill the genie-must-succumb-to-the-master theory when put in reverse. I still think IDOJ was much more sexist than BW, as a male sex fantasy.

Sam yelled back at Darrin a LOT when he was being a jerk- very unusual for sitcom married couples. For unmarried couples on TV it was more common..... before women married, they still had that "freedom" to.

And I'm also glad BW did much more to dispell the "dumb blonde" myth. Sam was much smarter than Jeannie, who was kind of an airhead who acted too much on unbased emotion. If there's a really good reason for it, fine. If not, it's just another dumb blonde stereotype on TV again.

(Opinions are THE most protected form of freedom of speech ;) )
