I always wondered why I didnt see him on the actual spinoff. This was simialr to Edith appearance in the Jeffersons pilot and Archie and Edith appearing on the Maude pilot but not the actual show. When I was watching during the marathon thats when I realized it was a ABP episode and not part of Gloria

It's a long story but Gloria was the idea of CoC and his production team. Their corporate champion was Alan Horn.

But in Summer of 1982, there was a reorganization at Embassy and a new person was put in charge of Archie and Company and he hated the Gloria pilot. So he brought a new team to oversee production basically forcing out CoC. It was at this point CoC washed his hands of Gloria vowing to have nothing more to do with it. He also disowned Sally Struther for continuing to appear on a show that was no longer his.

Someone from the parent show normally appears in the pilot of a spinoff. I know the Ropers didnt have any of the trio appear in the pilot for the ropers
