Everyone remembers TRL (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MryKhN7KmDc) — but 106 & Park quietly became even bigger.

While many associate MTV’s TRL with pop culture dominance, BET's 106 & Park actually beat TRL in ratings as early as 2002. In this video, we break down how 106 & Park evolved into a cultural powerhouse, became must-watch TV for an entire generation, and dominated afternoon music programming.

As someone who hosted the TRL reboot, I share my personal connection to both shows, my first time discovering 106 & Park in the summer of 2002, and how important this show remains in music and television history.

We also discuss how BET celebrated the 25th anniversary of 106 & Park during this year’s BET Awards and why the show deserves more recognition for what it achieved.
