Does anyone remember what you were doing when you heard, and how you reacted? i was to young to know who Lucy was i was only about 4

Unfortunately, I don't remember it. I wasn't a fan of Lucy's at the time of her death. I was about 6 years old when she died. Despite that she's dead, we will always see her in reruns. And when we all die, hopefully we'll see her up in Heaven. :)

I was driving in my car. I even remember the area I was driving in. It's odd that I can recall where I was upon hearing of Lucy's death as I wasn't a big fan. I like her, but I've liked other celebrities more, and can't recall where I was when I heard that they died.

I don't remember it being a big issue in Britain. They screened Paleface, I think, as a tribute, and talked about her and Desi a lot on the news. At the time I was a fan of ILL, but I hadn't really seen her in anything else. Mind you I'd already given up on the tittle-tattle rubbish British press by then, so I might have missed most of the coverage. When Desi died there wasn't much mention of it at all. I hadn't seen ILL yet, and I was only eleven so I hadn't really had a chance to get into jazz and Latin jazz and all the rest of it the way I have now. I don't think I'd even heard of him. I just remember seeing a clip of him doing Babalu somewhere, and thinking Wow!. Seems that a lot of the people I like the most were already dead before I really got into them! :(

I went to work not knowing but found out when i went home for lunch, it might not have been a big deal where you were Mickey, but it was the biggest deal in the States and Canada! Today with the internet it would be around the world in seconds, but even back then it was on all newscasts right away and all the mornings shows the next day had tributes and all the newsmagazine type entertainment shows also, the magazines followed, it went on for a week to ten days, i taped everything. Tributes from the President, the hospital had been inundated with faxes and phone calls and media from around the world, i distincly remember British and Australian and Japanese reporters near the hospital. Like Carol Burnett said, it was like Kennedy dying or a close member of the family, very touching, and if she did not know how BELOVED she was, she found out that day!

I think I was only 5 or 6 when she died. Good thing I wasnt older then or else I would have been so sad :/

I was only 3 when she died so I honestly have no idea where I was.

Sometimes age doesn't make any difference. I was two when Elvis died, but I remember that. It was just about the biggest thing ever. Well, I guess JFK was bigger news, to be fair, but that one I don't remember!

I guess you wouldn't remember JFK's assasination because you weren't born yet. :)

I was in my early teens when she died, and I didn't really know a whole lot about her at the time. I had certainly heard of her, but I had never seen any of her movies or TV shows. I watched a retrospective of her, and they showed various clips of "I Love Lucy." I thought it looked like a good show, so I started watching it. I've been a fan of it - and her - ever since. :)

I was 5 when she died, and I actually remember that day and my mom telling me. Back then, it was kind of part of my routine to watch ILL in the mornings but I really didn't become a big fan until I was much older, so I find it strange that the memory always stood out to me. I guess maybe it was the first time that somebody died that I actually knew -- or thought I knew -- and so it was sad for me and maybe a little confusing.

Well since I was so young and had never seen ILL (and wouldn't have my first experience with death until 5 months later when my grandpa died) I think my parents had no reason to bring it up. Had they known I would grow into such a huge Lucy freak, maybe they would have! :lol:

I was in fourth grade and getting ready for school on the morning of her death. I remember hearing that she'd been sick and there was great encouragement about her impending recovery. And then that morning as I walked into the living room to tie my shoes I saw that they were talking about her on the news and heard the ending of the report, which said, "Lucille Ball, dead at 79." It couldn't have been any more than an hour or an hour and a half after she had died. (I think she died at 6-ish in the morning, and I used to get ready for school at 7:30 or thereabouts.) Later that day at school I remember the principal announcing that we'd lost a great icon over the PA.

I remember all of the tributes, the Lucy sign over the Hard Rock cafe across from Cedar-Sanai Medical Center, the flowers on her star on the Walk of Fame, etc. Truly a sad day that will live on in the minds of many.
