On the Bob Seger version, the thing that makes it for me is that little "WOO" shout from the audience at the start, after Bob sings "east of Omaha..."

I'd have to go with Bob Seger's version. There's more subtlety and nuance with his song, more introspection about life on the road. Metallica does great covers, but it still seems this one is more about "heaviosity" which loses a little something in the translation.

Yes and its possible to still hear Bobbys song in beautiful analogue!!!! (Cassettes,8 track tapes to name 2)
