I have noticed that people complain that Ward wearing his suit into the evening is not normal, yet they say nothing about Mr. French wearing his suit.
French wears his suit from sunup to sundown. Makes breakfast, cleans the house and even wears it while the rest of the family have their robes on, ready for bed.
Thats it. That is the post. Just saying.

Although this scene was rumored to have been deleted, Mr. French also had difficulty getting himself clean in the shower. The suit prevented him from washing himself everywhere lol

This discussion ties in with people's comments about June wearing dresses with heels, earrings, and a pearl necklace while doing housework on LItB. Looking good was what it was all about...
Anyway, I believe French took off his coat for tasks like dusting the sofa -- so occasionally, he was seen in just a vest, with dress shirt and necktie. Going casual!! :)

TAGS - Andy Taylor wearing a suit and tie to go to the movies then a burger at the diner with steady Helen Crump. Even in the 60s wouldn't happen.

Both Ward and June were always dressed up even when they were having meals. Totally unrealistic but I guess in that era middle-class people did that. Not in my house, though.I think the networks wanted to paint a picture of very formal appearances on their shows?!

Nor mine.
There was a shift away from casual wear, starting around season 4. I'd bet the suit and tie thing came from an ABC request or directive.

That is true. The later seasons were in some ways MORE formal than the earlier ones. In the earlier seasons you often saw Ward in a polo or short-sleeved shirt, or even a sweatshirt when doing yard work. You rarely saw that in the later seasons. Maybe the network thought that more formal dress befitted an older man?
