I remember calling them for NFL and college football scores. This was before the internet was widely available and there was no ten minute ticker yet.

It was pretty high tech at the time. A guy would read the scores in a recorded message. I used the free ones.

I remember Sports Phone very well. Speaking of phones, I also remember getting that phone that looked like a football from Sports Illustrated.
