All the Rankin/Bass specials are tops, plus Charlie Brown, also one of my favorites, and it is an obscure one, is "A Wish For Wings That Work." It featured the characters from the 80's comic strip "Bloom County," and it is amazing.

Thanks for replying, I'd have to say the worst specials are Rudolph's Shiny New Year, and Frosty Returns, I didn't like them one bit.

Aaaaugh!
"Frosty Returns" was horrible!
That's right up there with "Godfather 3"

Totally useless sequel!

I agree...

I'm hooked on Yogi's First Christmas. Plus, I love the rare ones -- Pac-Man Christmas, Smurfs, Mr Magoo, etc. I plan my days in December by what is on TV. I have several tapes of old Christmas shows that I watch once every couple of months. I try to get the stuff that is hard to find, even if it isn't the best.

Damn, I miss Bloom County. That was a great strip.
TJL, you just made me sad.

OK, all better.

My favorite cartoon christmas special without a doubt would be the He-Man & She-Ra christmas special which aired back in 1985.

Olive, the other Reindeer with Drew barrymore as the doggie. Im thinking this will be a future classic.
Loved that scamming penguin. :)

if you've never seen it, when it comes on this year (im assuming it will) watch and record! Priceless.

I agree. Of the Christmas specials that came out the past few years, this one is the best.
Very funny and clever...Not to mention they got Michael Stipe to do a song.

All the Rankin Bass specials except for The Little Drummer Boy and The Leprechauns Christmas.(I think at that point Rankin Bass just simply ran out of ideas.)

A Charlie Brown Christmas (The ultimate classic.)

Yogi's first Christmas

The Simpsons Christmas Special

Ziggy's Christmas (The special is very rare and hard to find now, but very enjoyable.)

Does Rankin - Bass still do shows? I haven't seen anything in ages. I know they have a website, but what have they done lately??

My favorite has to be Rudolph the Red Nose reindeer only because my son tells me that I'm the little dolly at the end of the movie. (Sniff)........ :crying:

Plus he tells me to sing the song.....
There's always tomorrow
For dreams that come true......... (A song in the movie sunged by the doe) :crying:

I Almost forgot...

Another great special, which is celebrating its 40th Anniversary this year, is "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol."

It has some great songs.

I believe they just released it on DVD to boot.

The TV Guide for the week of November 23-29 has a lot of information about upcoming Christmas programs!

Be sure to look it up.

ABC Family looks like it will have a Christmas show every night throughout December.

Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July Monday, December 2 (7:00 - 9:00 pm ET): Rudolph's red nose is about to become a burned-out bulb and Frosty The Snowman will be reduced to a slightly chilly puddle unless Santa Claus can save them from a fiendish wizard. Features the voices of Red Button, Ethel Merman and Mickey Rooney. Encore presentation on Thursday, December 19, at 6:00pm.

^ I have to catch that it sounds really good.

My favorites (of those I've seen and remember): A Charlie Brown Christmas, Garfield Christmas, SC is Coming to Town (that's the one with Fred Astaire, right?), the Muppet Christmas movies (if they count), How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Rudolph, the Rugrats specials, and what was that one called where the bear cub wanted to stay up to see Santa? The mother bear had Wilma Flintstone's voice. I've never seen the Ziggy one, but I'm sure I would like it, and the Flintstones and Yogi Bear too, if I could remember them.

The one I really hated: Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.

My favorites(not really in order) -

1. Charlie Brown Christmas
2. Garfield Christmas
3. Rudolph
4. How the Grinch Stole Christmas
5. The Night Before Christmas

I also liked another special that wasn't a cartoon or animated like the Rankin Bass ones, but I thought it was really cute: The Christmas Toy - a Jim Henson production with live kids and muppet characters. It aired in either the late '80's or early '90's. I liked it so much I bought the video!

I never did like the Frosty the Snowman specials much, even as a kid - Frosty just annoyed me.

Arnold's Christmas is a great Christmas special. A bit of a tear-jerker though. There aren't too many people who'd exclude "A Charlie Brown Christmas," or "Rudloph the Red-Nose Reindeer" from their lists. I still like "Beavis and Butt-head Do Christmas," and I agree that "Olive the Other Reindeer" is destined to be a classic.
