Adam West's Batman has a ton of famous foes he’s gone up against, like The Joker, Riddler, The Penguin and Catwoman. But what about the ones that only got one chance to shine on the Batman ’66 tv show? Kurt Money takes a look at the unsung villains who don’t get enough credit for what they brought to the table for fighting Batman. Today’s spotlight is on MA PARKER, played Shelley Winters, in the season two episodes, “The Greatest Mother of Them All,” and “Ma Parker.” The Ma Parker Gang get arrested one by one (on purpose) by Batman and Robin so that once they are all inside the Gotham City Penitentiary, Ma Parker can rule over the prison with complete protection. Even Catwoman is on board with the plan, although The Joker and The Penguin are still in solitary confinement. Dick Grayson’s Greek lesson is interrupted when Wayne Manor gets a phone call from Commissioner Gordon requesting their help in catching…THE GREATEST MOTHER OF THEM ALL!!!

Two-time Oscar winner, Shelley Winters, did not have a good experience on the set. She suffered an injury to her ankle, did not like her wardrobe and is not fondly remembered by the cast. But even with that, she puts in an incredible performance as the Batman villain, Ma Parker, based on the real-life mommy crook, Ma Barker. Winters would go on to play Ma Barker in 1971 for Roger Corman’s BLOODY MAMA, costarring Bruce Dern and Robert De Niro in what is perhaps his first role.

These Batman episodes have plenty of flavor too, including a screening of the Barbara Stanwyck classic, THE WOMAN IN RED, a hilarious cameo by Milton Berle, and a number of PSAs from Batman to Robin, including “hey, cool guys follow the speed limit,” and “hey, keep your eyes off Legs’ gams, Boy Wonder!”
