Has "Step by Step" ever made a referral (as a joke) about The Brady Bunch? I know Golden Girls once mentioned something about "Designing Women" (I think Sophia said, "what is this, Designing Women?" referring to Blanche's accent). I remember some shows back in the 70's & 80's would say something like, "Goodnight, John-Boy" as a joke referring to The Waltons. I remember "Friends" once said something about Three's Company. I was over at the Brady Bunch board and read something about The X Files having a replica of the Brady house that someone materialized from their mind. (sorry if this is a repeat topic!) Any others you can think of?

I the Golden Girls Sophia said something like:

'I survived war, disease, and 2 season of Desing Women"

And Blanche says that Tootie was her favorite on the Facts of Life.

Some others I thought of --
On "All in the Family", Archie asks Louise Jefferson if she watched "Julia" and she asks him if he watched the Doris Day show.

This is such an endless topic because in almost every TV show, references were made to other TV shows. Here's a few:

Good Times: references to Julia, Sanford & Son

The Golden Girls: references to Growing Pains, Mr. Belvedere, ALF, Designing Women, The Hogan Family, M*A*S*H, Make Room for Daddy, The Facts of Life, Petticoat Junction

Maude: references to The Partridge Family, The Mary Tyler Moore Show

ALF: references to Green Acres, Gilligan's Island

That's cool, because I remember Dorthy mentioning one of the Facts of Life movies in one episode. There was also a Golden Girls episode where Blanche and Rose were watching I Love Lucy. The Golden Girls must have referred to a lot of shows throughout its run.

On Three's Company I remember Helen saying their (Helen and Stanley's) Wednesday nights together consisted of Baretta and Charlie's Angels. Also, in the episode where Larry almost gets married, they congratulate him with a toast. Chrissy mistakes it for, however, for their favorite shows.

Jack: To happy days.
Janet: To good times!
Chrissy: To Little House on the Prarie!

Also, during Step by Step's last season on ABC, Jean Luc mentioned Carol (Suzanne Somers)'s eerie resemblence to Chrissy Snow.

Friends-Rachel is watching Joanie and Chachi's marriage and then screams out "But Joanie Loves Chachi!".

Friends-Chandler says something about liking "Dee,The Sarcastic sister from 'What's Happening?' ".

Curb Your Enthusiasm-Constantly makes refrences to "Seinfeld" and in one episode refrenced "Bob Patterson".

Ned and Stacy-Made refrences to "Good Times","Diff'rent Strokes","What's Happening","Wings" (In which Thomas Hayden Church previously starred) and more!

NewsRadio - Dave's favorite show is "Green Acres". They also mention "M*A*S*H". And Dave missed a semester of "Cheers" studying for the SATs. Beth once referred to a conversation as an episode of "Blossom". They mentioned "Star Trek" Joe mentioned Elmo and Big Bird. Mr. James mentioned "Ellen". Dave mentioned "The Arsenio Hall Show". After Joe tapped Dave's computer to fix it, Dave said "Thanks Fonzie." Also, Bill and Lisa met Jerry Seinfeld, playing himself.

"Married with Children": I remember watching a part that went something like this:

(Al is dreaming that he is in heaven)
Al: I want to speak to God!
Angel: He can't be disturbed right now. He's watching "Knots Landing."
Al: No wonder that show was never cancelled!

Also, when it comes to this topic, there are only two words that sum it all up: The Simpsons.

Some off the top of my head:

Perfect Strangers: Balki sings the theme song to The Brady Bunch to a baby--probably that of Gina (who took a trip to Philadelphia) during the early years

Diff'rent Strokes: Arnold or Willis says their new room is "better than The Brady Bunch" or something similar in the pilot

The Wonder Years: lots of TV shows mentioned, including:
1. Marcia Brady mentioned in a couple of episodes (Paul Pfeiffer, both times--once while playing "Life" in #34, "Don't You Know Anything About Women?" and #41, "Faith" (where Norma loses the tax receipts))
2. Wayne tells Jack that "Get Smart starts in 15 minutes" when he's fixing the TV set in #79, "Pfeiffer's Fortune"
3. Lou Grant (of Mary Tyler Moore fame) and Beaver Cleaver (of LITB fame) mentioned in #110, "Eclipse" (planetarium episode), courtesy of Winnie
4. the narrator describes 1968 as the first year of The Mod Squad in the pilot
5. the theme from Hawaii Five-0 plays during the episode where Rickey Holsenbach gets his driver's license (#74, "Full Moon Rising")
6. a Tom and Jerry cartoon is playing on the TV in the living room
7. I Dream of Jeannie references in #6, "Dance With Me"

The Waltons: During one of the episodes while set in the movie theater, a Warner Brothers cartoon plays on the screen

The Golden Girls was notorious for mentioning other shows.

They mentioned The Cosby Show and a Different World on a few occasions. Along with Roseanne, The Flying Nun, and LA Law

I remember one where....

Rose: Are you upset about the election???

Dorothy: No I'm upset because they haven't rerun The Facts Of Life Goes To Austrailia

Roseanne mentioned a few shows also:

Friends, Designing Women, Bewitched, Giligans Island, Oprah Winfrey among others.

Clueless made a reference to Saved By The Bell.

Married With Children made several references to The Facts Of Life.

The ones that immediately spring to mind are as follows:

In a first season episode of "Friends", the gang were actually watching an episode of "Three's Company" when Chandler says "I think this is the episode of Three's Company where they have some sort of misunderstanding."

In an episode of "Who's The Boss", Tony watched "Little House On The Prairie".

"That 70's Show" has made a number of television referencex, such as "Roots", "The Partridge Family" and "The Brady Bunch Comedy Hour".

I remember Married with Children ALWAYS made reference to The Facts of Life which is just odd. i remember 5 or so episodes where they did. in one episode Jefforson asks where Al is and Bud says something like "hes doing what any real man would be" and we see Al singing along to the Facts of Life theme song. another time when Kelly is working at TV Land or something like it she tells about how some fat woman went flying into the Facts of Life Fan Pavillion, Good thing its always empty. and the last i can remember was Peggy saying that after you get best known for playing a TV character, it sticks with you forever. as she put it, everyone will always refer to The Fat girl from the Facts of life as The Fat girl from the facts of life.

Add for The Wonder Years:

8. Kevin, Wayne, and Delores (Wayne's GF) are watching Mr. Ed on TV, and Kevin imagines that the horse is talking about Kevin's relationship with Winnie in Episode #36, "She, My Friend, and I", in which Paul starts dating Winnie after being dumped by Carla Healy.

One very funny show that was short lived was Clerks The Cartoon. Since it was a Kevin Smith thing it of course had lots of Sitcom references. one where Randal is looking back on his life, and seeing all episodes of Happy Days, saying things like "remember the time me and Joanie won the dance contest" and having a flashback of Happy Days. Dante would say something like "that wasent you that was Fonzie on an episode of Happy Days" they even had a Jump the Shark reference where he says "Remember when i jumped the shark" and thinks back to Fonzie jumping the shark.

Another episode had some Simpsons and Just Shoot me references. But the best episode was when Dante and Randal think the Quick Stop would close so they foil the local Tycoon, Leonardo Leonardo(similar to Mr Burns) by using a plan they saw on an episode of The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfiefer. i reccomend renting the DVD. a lot of great references for a show that ran 6 episodes.

On The Golden Girls, I remember a scene where Blanche and Rose refused to talk to Dorothy. Dorothy made some comment along the lines of "So this is how Chrissy felt"

On Green Acres, when they accidently set up a TV station in the farm a ratings report comes in. #3 in the ratings was The Beverly Hillbillies, the show GA spunoff of.

Also on Laverne & Shirley, they often referred to the show Sea Hunt in the early years of the show.

On Happy Days, I remember them mentioning My Little Margie once.

In the Nanny they made some references to I Love Lucy, and in the I Love Lucy episode where they pretended to be gangsters, the woman whose house they were trying to get out of buying said, "I heard them say that on Lineup." I think that was a veiled reference to Dragnet, unless there really was a show called Lineup that I never heard of. The Ricardos and Mertzes were also on a show which was a takeoff of Person to Person.

There was an episode of Soul Man where he was watching Dragnet.

And there was one show (I think it was Mork and Mindy) where Mork (I think) went to jail, and Barbara Billingsley was there too, and he called her Mrs. Cleaver at some point.

That reminded me, there was also a Lucy Show episode where she got a draft notice meant for a Lou C Carmichael, and by the time Mr. Mooney finally works through the ranks and gets her out of the marines, they bring in a replacement for her, and of course, it's Gomer Pyle.

I also remembered some show Bob Newhart was on where one of the characters makes a remark about The Bob Newhart show. He calls it "that show about a "shrink who stutters." I can't remember what show it was where he said that though.

...nobody's mentioned what is probably the most often referenced sitcom of all: My Mother the Car !!

The 2 that I remember most are:

1 - The Bob Newhart Show
(Bob comes home after a disastrous apprearance on a local TV show)
Bob: It was the WORST thing on television!
Howard: No it wasn't. The fourth episode of My Mother the Car was the worst.

2 - The Mary Tyler Moore Show
(After her show is canceled, Sue Ann takes a job at WJM making TV announcements)
Sue Ann: Be sure to tune in to WJM for another hilarious episode of My Mother the Car. The fun begins when Mom gets a lube job.

Also, the episode, "The One With 2 Parts", Marcel the monkey has the remote control and changes the TV to Spanish, and Family Matters is on. Rachel says, "Hey, Urkel in Spanish is Urkel."
Then after that, Laverne & Shirley comes on and Ross asked Phoebe "You want to watch Laverne Y Shirley?"

He turned it off, and said something like "Those BEVERLY HILLBILIES crack me up all the time!" (BH & GA were both created by Paul Henning.)
Another time, I remember Mr. Ziffle saying something about how he'd rather be home watching "The Beverly Hillbilies".
Another time, the Hooterville playhouse (I think that's what it was called) put on a play of "The Beverly Hillbillies".

Cheers-once someone said something about how Frasiers life is dull or something, then they showed Frasier looking up at the TV, & he said "Now, why is Gillagan magnetized?"

Freinds-once, they were watching an old tape of themselves in the 70s, and Ross had an afro hairstyle, and Joey said "LOOKIN" GOOD, MR. KOTTER!!"

MASH-once, someone mentioned to col. Potter "The Toast of The Town"-which was what "The Ed Sullivan show" was called in the early 50s.
Another time, Hawkeye sang a line from the theme to "The Mickey Mouse Club"

Once on "I Love Lucy" Little Ricky was watching "The Adventures of Superman".
Once on "Mad About You" Paul walked in the apartment and said to Jamie "You know what's wrong with this city? People mistake me for Wayne Rodgers, and some of them ask me why I ever left "MASH".
