The band Chicago was originally Chicago Transit Authority. Until the city government of the city of Chicago threatened to sue them over it, so they quickly shortened it to just Chicago. LOL.

I'm going to post one that's a little more obscure. In the early 80s there was a band from San Francisco originally named 415 (the telephone area code for most of the San Francisco Bay area) that changed their name to The Eric Martin Band. They were pressured into it by their record label when they were signed and were recording their debut album. Apparently most of the executives at the record label hated the name 415 which is how the band then named themselves after their lead singer. Unfortunately, the band's debut album Sucker For A Pretty Face didn't sell well and they broke up a few years later. But interestingly, I recently found a clip of them on YouTube on an episode of American Bandstand with Dick Clark promoting the album. After the band broke up, Eric Martin continued on with his career releasing several solo albums and then he eventually became the lead singer of another band Mr. Big. They had a couple of big hits in the early 90s with To Be With You (which Martin had wrote himself when he was still a teenager!) and a remake of Wild World which was originally wrote and released by Cat Stevens, but after that they kind of disappeared. Eric Martin's got a good singing voice and his style is basically hard rock kind of heavy metal sounding. I've bought a couple of his solo albums in the past year and he even did some interesting covers of a few well known 80s pop hits on some of his albums. Check him out some time.
