Sorry for the slowness and downtime folks. I tried rebooting it 4-5 times last night. It would be ok for a few minutes before it got swarmed with connections. I turned everything off for guests. It was running pretty well when I went to bed. Then it was not accessible again this morning.

I signed up with Cloudflare and enabled the Under Attack Mode (Show visitors a JavaScript challenge when they visit your site) for now. I also enabled Super Bot Fight Mode (Block AI bots and challenge bots from any source that may carry out attacks like content scraping and credential stuffing using the standard configuration of Super Bot Fight Mode.) I'm still going through the options.

It will be an extra $25 a month, but it will be worth it if it prevents the DDos attacks and greatly improves the speed.

Please let me know if you are having any issues.

I wonder if Dude111 will be able to prove he is human with javascript disabled. I don't know how the challenge system works with older browsers.

Cloudflare is pretty much a necessity these days. I have no idea where all the bots were coming from. I've never seen so many different IP addresses connecting from around the world. The downside is that Cloudflare has an outage, we will go down like the millions of sites who are using them.

The e-mail server should be running again now. Our host was able to fix it. I just got about 400 e-mails from today.

I remember when all the antivirus software programs were the rage. It seems like those software companies had a financial benefit to all of the viruses.

I changed some settings. You should only have to prove you are human once a week. The default was every 30 minutes.

I will probably turn off the Under Attack Mode at some point and just put up the challenges for certain countries. It's still getting heavily hit from Brazil, but most of the requests are being blocked.

If anyone gets blocked, I can try whitelisting the IP address.

Slowest this site has been in awhile, maybe because of over 1100 guests. Verifying human frequency might need increased, and it has been much longer than a week since I got a verification here. I turned off the "Under Attack Mode" human verification for most countries after the first few days. It was blocking the good bots. If it is ever truly under attack, I can turn it back on temporarily.

There's definitely been a surge in unique visitors the past two days. Of the 1,100 guests online now, over 100 are from Google (60,136 allowed requests in the last 24 hours) and Bing (77,987 allowed requests).

This is what happened this morning if you were wondering why it was down. Many sites were affected for 2-3 hours.

Hello,

Beginning around 11:20 UTC today, Cloudflare experienced widespread degradation to traffic in our network. We deeply apologize for this disruption. We have published a blog (https://blog.cloudflare.com/18-november-2025-outage/) detailing exactly what happened. The majority of the impact was resolved by 14:30 UTC, with all remaining downstream impacted services being fully operational at 17:06 UTC.

In short, this incident occurred due to a latent bug related to a configuration file for our bot management service. There is no evidence of an attack or malicious activity causing the issue.

Bot management detection sits in the critical path for traffic flow. When any request hits our network, the bot management module should load, but due to the bug, the configuration file grew beyond an expected size of entries. This triggered a crash in the software system that handles traffic for a number of Cloudflare's services. Customers experienced HTTP 500 status code errors as many of Cloudflare's services suffered an outage.

The Cloudflare team diagnosed the issue and reverted to an earlier version of the bot detection module configuration that was below the limits. We also modified the core proxy service so it would not fail in this way if limits are reached again.

For a more detailed description and timeline of the incident, and the steps we took to address it, please review our blog.

Sincerely,
Cloudflare Team

The server has been running great the last few weeks. I don't want to change anything.

Why can't you just be satisifed with how it is set up now? I have to do what's best for the majority of people visiting the site. That means having all of the http links automatically redirect to https so people don't get the not secure warning messages.

I have to use Cloudflare. The site wouldn't be accessible without it due to the high amount of bots.

I haven't had the managed challenges turned on for the US until the last few days. It runs much faster with them turned on, but there are some downsides like it blocks hotlinking so I can't see any images on the blog preview. I don't want to annoy anyone with them.

Events last 24 hours for the US:

Issued 572.38k
Solved 1.57k

All of the automated traffic is being blocked. There's less than 300 members and guests online compared to the usual 1,000-2,000. Only Google and Bing are allowed to crawl the site.

You shouldn't see the managed challenges more than once per week. What kind of challenge are you seeing? Maybe I can try whitelisting your IP address if you have a static one.

Whitelisting your IP addresses should allow you to bypass the managed challenges.

AI Overview

Cloudflare Managed Challenges in Safari often stem from high-risk IP addresses, aggressive ad-blockers, or VPN usage, causing "challenge loops" (e.g., verifying you're human repeatedly). To resolve, disable extensions (e.g., AdGuard, uBlock), turn off VPNs, or clear Safari cookies/cache. Cloudflare now uses Private Access Tokens in Safari to bypass CAPTCHAs.

Common Causes and Solutions for Safari:

Extensions & Ad Blockers: Privacy-focused extensions (e.g., script blockers) hinder Cloudflare’s validation scripts, triggering repeated challenges. Action: Disable extensions temporarily.

VPN/Proxy Usage: IP addresses from public VPNs often carry high threat scores, causing Cloudflare to block or challenge the connection.

VPN Use: If using iCloud Private Relay, it may sometimes cause issues, but generally supports Private Access Tokens, allowing you to bypass challenges.

Browser Automation & Tools: Using tools like Selenium or browser developer tools can mimic bot behavior. Action: Disable device emulation in Safari tools.

Challenge Loops: If the page loops, try clearing browser cookies and cache, or switch networks.

For site owners, changing WAF rules from "Legacy CAPTCHA" to "Managed Challenge" improves user experience, as it allows Apple/Safari users to pass via Private Access Tokens without interaction.

The managed challenges have been running for a few days. I don't know if anything was changed on your phone yesterday.

Do you have a static/permanent IP address? I assume you are using your home Wi-Fi service.

AI Overview

To keep the same IP address in Safari and prevent it from constantly changing or being hidden, you need to disable Apple's privacy features that mask your IP, specifically iCloud Private Relay and "Hide IP Address" settings.

Here are the methods to keep your IP address consistent, ranked by effectiveness:

1. Disable iCloud Private Relay (Most Effective)
If you have iCloud+, Private Relay acts as a VPN, constantly changing your IP address.
On iPhone/iPad: Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Private Relay and turn it off.
On Mac: Go to System Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Private Relay and turn it off.

2. Turn Off "Hide IP Address" in Safari
This prevents Safari from hiding your IP from known trackers, which can cause erratic IP behavior.
On iPhone/iPad: Go to Settings > Apps > Safari. Under Privacy & Security, tap Hide IP Address and select Off.
On Mac: Open Safari > Settings > Privacy. Uncheck "Hide IP address from trackers".

3. Allow IP Address for Specific Sites
If you want to keep privacy features on generally, but need a consistent IP for one specific site:
Open the website in Safari on iPhone.
Tap the "Aa" or Page Settings icon on the left side of the address bar.
Tap Show IP Address.
This allows that specific site to see your real, consistent IP.

4. Turn Off "Prevent Cross-Site Tracking"
Sometimes, restricting trackers forces Safari to use generic IP addresses.
On iPhone/iPad: Go to Settings > Apps > Safari and turn off Prevent Cross-Site Tracking.

5. Disable VPNs
If you use a third-party VPN, it will constantly change your IP. Turn off any active VPN apps to maintain a consistent IP from your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Important Note on Dynamic IPs
Even with these settings off, your ISP usually assigns a dynamic IP address, which means your router's IP will still change periodically (e.g., when you restart your router), regardless of Safari settings. To keep the same IP permanently, you would need to purchase a static IP from your ISP.

iOS and Mac OS had a security patch that ran recently. Like within the last two days. 26.3.1 (a).

From AI:

MacOS 26.3.1 (a) is a version of Apple's operating system that includes important security updates and bug fixes. It specifically addresses a vulnerability in WebKit that could allow malicious web content to bypass security measures.

iOS probably says the same thing.

The managed challenges have been running for a few days. I don't know if anything was changed on your phone yesterday.

Do you have a static/permanent IP address? I assume you are using your home Wi-Fi service.

It’s going smooth right now but to answer the questions, I made no changes, and yes, just the one Spectrum internet account. (Well that and the T-Mobile data for when I’m out)

I had already updated to that (iPadOS 26.3.1(a) ) but the problem here was still occurring.

I’m being Cloudflared to death. Even if I’m already on the site and I click View Today’s Active Threads the verification thing comes on.Im sorry your having problems buddy...I see Todd tried to add your IP to the allow list on cloudfare..

I hope it gets better for ya :)

It was okay for a while late last night but it’s back now. It’s starting to annoy me. I tried it on the phone with both WiFi and then turning it off and using the 5G and it happened both times. The common denominator seems to be Safari.

But please don’t ask me to switch browsers because I don’t want to do that.

You are doing many searches. I wonder if you are being flagged as a suspicious user. You are getting by the challenges. It's just not saving them because your IP address is changing. Are you able to change it to a IPv4 address?

I asked ChatGPT for help. It suggested I add the whole range.

Here are some other things you can try if it doesn't work.

Challenge solve issues (https://developers.cloudflare.com/cloudflare-challenges/troubleshooting/challenge-solve-issues/)

Detection errors: If Turnstile suspects bot-like behavior, you may encounter repeated Challenges for verification.

The high volume of searches could be leading to repeated Challenges for verification.

It's cute that you think I understand any of that.

I don't feel I'm doing any more or less searching then usual.

I'm on the PC for this so everything's ok.

So far this afternoon I’ve twice done stuff here with no problems and I haven’t made any changes.

Cloudflare doesn’t come up at any other board I read although I don’t know if they use it behind the scenes. I know Primetimer had adopted it around the same time you did but it doesn’t pop up there for me anymore.

Maybe your whitewashing finally kicked in?

See if you can get there :)

https://yarn.co also uses Cloudflare. Their embedded gifs don't display because the managed challenges block hotlinking. I was able to allow hotlinking with the help of ChatGPT. I had to create a custom rule.

Adding your entire IP range seems to have done the trick. You are getting a new IP address at least every few hours for some reason. Maybe Cloudflare thinks you are a new user because of the amount of searches.

You are getting a new IP address at least every few hours for some reason.

ChatGTP says that’s normal—

Q: Why do I keep getting a new ip address?

A: That’s actually pretty normal—most people don’t have a permanently fixed IP address. Here are the main reasons yours keeps changing:

When I goto yarn.co with the same proxy I use to come here I get

"Sorry, you have been blocked"

If I come here with the same site I gave you Todd I get the same thing I get if I try to come here....... (Even though you tried to add it to the allow list)

I just read today my friend Skip who owns hipforums is getting these attacks now also....... Its very sad........ 40,000 on the other day I guess......

Based on Opus' suggestion, I did some reading about it. I never really thought about it, but your IP address would have to change if you took your laptop/tablet/phone to another location, using a different Wi-Fi--for the reason that different internet providers are probably assigned different banks of IP addresses. Cloudflare would somehow have to account for that kind of thing.

Its incredible the last few days the attacks are insane on many sites!

Paul had over 70,000 Guests the other day so he lowered the limit of blocking guests seeing things...... Now it almost says it all the time for guests (Wont let them view)

My friend Skip on hipforums is now being hit hard.......

This seems like purposefull attacks!!!!! -- Like someone is doing it on purpose!!

EDIT:

Skip said this today on hipforums

Yup, they're definitely attacking us today, I've seen the evidence now. I feel aweful :(

I've had the same IP address with Comcast/Xfinity since at least December 2024. I think it would be unusual to get a new IP address every few hours. I guess it depends on the ISP.

I would be curious if you get the repeated challenges on any other sites such as https://www.webhostingtalk.com or https://yarn.co/ . These sites probably have the managed challenges set to daily or maybe hourly. I'm guessing you were just being flagged as suspicious by Cloudflare because of the high volume of searches.

The bots and AI training crawlers/scrapers are taking over the web! Paul and Skip should be using Cloudflare if they aren't already. I didn't get any challenges on their forums.

AI Overview

As of early 2026, bots account for 51% to 52% of all global web traffic. This marks a significant milestone where automated, non-human activity has officially surpassed human internet usage.

This surge is primarily driven by the rapid growth of generative AI, data scraping, and automated agents, according to the 2025 Imperva Bad Bot Report and 2026 AI Bot Impact Reports.

Key Data on Bot Traffic (2026):
Total Bot Traffic: 51-52% of global traffic.
Bad Bots: 37% of total traffic, used for scraping, fraud, and credential stuffing.
Good Bots: 14% of traffic (search engine crawlers, monitoring tools).
AI Crawler Growth: Dedicated AI training crawlers now make up 45.4% of all AI bot traffic as of Feb 2026, surpassing mixed-purpose bots.

Online bot traffic will exceed human traffic by 2027, Cloudflare CEO says | TechCrunch (https://techcrunch.com/2026/03/19/online-bot-traffic-will-exceed-human-traffic-by-2027-cloudflare-ceo-says/)

Does anyone think Cloudflare's verification process is too slow? I received the below message. I've never experienced a 90 second wait time on here or any other site which uses them. It's normally about 5 seconds or less. It should be automatic depending on the browser you are using. Anyone getting the challenges more than once per week is either having their IP address change or they are being flagged as suspicious.

I think the initial wait and pain of a 5-10 second delay to filter out the many bots is worth it if it runs faster overall for everyone. I can see it's getting more page views since I started verifiying everyone from the US.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Your new Cloudfair verification process is too slow. Sometimes it works, sometimes it just sits there. It's not only you, other sites also have this problem. Can you find another "verification" company or process? 90 seconds is about as fast as it can verify (when it works properly)
