Question: What has shocked you the most about Sally Field? (https://www.quora.com/What-has-shocked-you-the-most-about-Sally-Field/answer/Jon-Mixon-1)

Hmmm….

That she was able to earn two Oscars so close together in time - If you watched Field in her 1960s or early 1970s offerings, it would have been difficult to claim that she was going to win two Academy Awards less than two decades later. While Field has been an effective performer, she didn’t appear to be a strong enough one for her to be awarded Oscars early on.
That despite her twin Oscars, her profile dropped rapidly in Hollywood - Despite winning for Norma Rae and Places in the Heart, by 1988 she was playing second fiddle to a much younger Tom Hanks in Punchline, and then his MOTHER in Forrest Gump just six years later. Field was an A-list star for only a brief period of time which given her lengthy career in the entertainment industry was somewhat depressing.
That for a woman who has been such a strong performer that she’s done so many terrible films - Ever see Eye for an Eye, Surrender, or Two Weeks? No one has. They were all helmed by Field and all were quite terrible.
That no one remembers Brothers and Sisters despite Field being its lead and despite it being her most successful television venture - The series lasted for five seasons and 109 episodes and yet is largely forgotten despite airing roughly 15 years ago. It’s worse than her turn on The Flying Nun and that was almost 60 years ago.
That Field, despite being a strong advocate for women’s rights, seems to be ignored by the movement - Field has been a major advocate for pro-choice for decades, she publicly supported both female candidates for POTUS quite vocally, and she’s been public about women’s rights in many venues. Yet she rarely appears when they need someone to interview and it seems to surprise many people when they learn her political leanings and advocacies.

Great actor, although woefully underused and under-rated.
